Articles reprinted from 1953 May/ August/ November in the Quarterly Review of Pediatrics, along with speakers' introduction, preface, and concluding remarks, which comprise the "All-Day Institute", on Mongolism, held at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn & co-sponsored by the Morris J. Solomon Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Retarded Children and the Association for the Help of Retarded Retarded Children. The conference was organized to challenge the nearly universal tendency of physicians' automatic recommendation for institutional placement upon diagnosis and survey the collective experience of practicing physicians, social workers and therapists, and to engage the broader discussion of management and guidance, as well as medical treatment and prevention.
