A demon performed severe penance and obtained a boon: "My death be not caused by man or beast, during day or night, indoors or outdoors." And using this power he conquered the gods.
Prahlad, the demon's son was devoted to the protector god Vishnu and proclaimed the same even to his father. The demon was upset and tried various means to punish him. Prahlad believed that his god was everywhere. His father wanted to test if he was in the pillar, so he hit it. And out came a lion-faced human who fulfilled all the conditions to be able to slay the demon. This is the story of how that happened
The name Prahlada will be familiar to everyone who has read Bhagavad Gita. In Gita, we can see the name Prahlada mentioned in the 10th chapter. We can see Krishna saying, "Among the Daityas, I am the great devotee Prahlada." This itself is the best example of Prahlada's devotion. He is considered one of the most ardent worshippers of Lord Vishnu.
This book tells us more about the life of Prahlada and how Narasimha (an avatar of Vishnu) saved him from the abuse of Hiranyakashipu.
Even when your father is evil you must stand up for what is right - a great lesson for all. I always try to buy comics from other countries whenever I can; comics from India are often written in English - so I am able to really understand them. Wonderful stories and vibrant illustrations.
Being born to Asuras, Prahlad had great devotion to Lord Vishnu as an inate quality. He was the great devote to Lord Vishnu. To save him from the Asura Hiranyakashypu Lord Vishnu himself has to come on Earth to protect his devote. Great Devotion Story.
Pretty pictures. An idiotic story. The gods should be worshipped, but they can't be trusted. They war amongst themselves, conquer and pillage, but they are lords. Still, even the believers of Vishnu bow and offer obsequience to the celestials, as they rule over others. No wonder war never ends.
The story of Prahlad's devotion to Vishnu is well-known in India, told by grandmothers to little children. This comics captured the heart of the story, with heart-warming illustrations.
While there were a couple of details I was not faimilar with, this is the story I have read many times. I was disappointed with the omission of Holika from this story as it is so well-known in relation to Prahlada's story.
When it comes to narrating mythological stories, I face a tough time. It’s so good to see these books, which are easy to read. The best part are the bright and beautiful illustrations.
