This book is aimed at 4th - 8th graders, though I feel anyone with an interest in the supernatural, and ghosts, will find it interesting. I was very surprised, and delighted, to find many entries about subjects I had not encountered before. Many of the entries are about a half page in length, though some topics, such as ghosts in school settings, have their own chapter.

Some of my favorites, that I had never encountered before were:

The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall - The ghost of Lady Dorothy Walpole, in Norfolk England, the ghost is so named due to the brown dress she supposedly wears.

The Fox Sisters - These siblings, it seems, began the craze of spiritualism. They claimed to communicate with the dead via strange popping noises. Decades later, upon the last years of life of one of the sisters, she owned up to their "powers" all being a hoax.

Freddy Jackson - A mechanic for the RAF, he was seen in a photo with his crew. Not unusual, except the photo was taken two days after Freddy's untimely death.

California Toys 'R Us - The idea of a haunted toy store is just plain creepy.

Long time favorites, that were again told in this book, included stories from the Winchester House, and the Queen Mary.

The book also contained an Equipment List for the avid ghost hunter, a glossary and an index.

A thoroughly enjoyable book.

Simplistic, but presents the information in an unbiased manner. Good for children who like spooky stuff from about 6 to 9.
