A great compilation meant to be a resource and not just a pick up and read me book. So far I've enjoyed the chapters and think it is a good choice for those who are interested in running trails and ultra's. I liked the variety - it's a bit older book but it is a no nonsense not flashy type that you can use to reference for years to come. Lots of great topics and info in here!
This book helped me understand that I don't want to "do ultraruns", I just want to run ultra-ly. The information on physiology and anatomy was very useful to me and encouraged me to explore other sources. When I got to the second half of the book, I realized I don't care about running lore or being part of some larger "ultrarunning community". After reading this book I decided to stop timing myself or measuring distance. Racing has been important for my motivation, but now I just want to run for health and happiness, not put myself through intense metabolic stress for the sake of numbers or medals. I appreciate all of the accumulated wisdom in this book.
