(Instructional). Living sax legend Jackie McLean is one of the greatest alto players of the post-Parker era. For this book, he has assembled essential warm-up exercises to help students become familiar with playing through different keys ascending and descending chromatically. Includes a biography, an interview, many exercises, and transcriptions of his solos in "Bluesnik" and "Dig."

This has been my warm up book on sax for over 12 years. Most exercises are memorized as are the solo transcriptions. The scale and chord exercises move chromatically covering all keys in one exercise.
For instance, beginning on the F major scale (F on the top stave) and playing up to high F above the staff and then moving chromatically down on the E Maj scale then up on Eb Maj scale and so on. It does the same for harmonic minor and diminished scales. Also chordal exercises the same way (augmented, major, minor, and diminished) in addition two of Jackie McLean's solo transcriptions on "Bluesnik" and "Dig".
Great for improvisers to train fingers and mind to change keys quickly without thinking.
