Since this was written for children, I don't know how much it was changed from the original. I suppose that it's a good read for juveniles, but I really didn't love it. By today's standards, it would never have been published. Jane starts out an orphan, hated by the aunt and cousins who took her in just because she exists. Then she is sent to an awful school for girls. I guess this is normal for the times it was written (1847). Jane finally gets a better life when she gets a job as a governess to a young teenage girl. The story tells very little about her work. She falls in love with the master of the house with very little contact. Frankly, he sounded frightful to me. The illustrations of him were even worse. I was happy with part of the ending, when she found some family.
