It took me a while to get into this one but once I did I was hooked. There's a lot going on in this book. There are weddings, nearly weddings, love affairs and heartbreak. In the middle of all this the clan manage to do their bit for the war too. Keth goes on a secret mission and the outcome lives on with him. There is a death which is a huge shock and I didn't see coming.
Through it all the main character of this series stands solid amid the turmoil, Rowangarth, the house itself. It gathers them all in when times are tough and provides the joy of homecoming on leave. This book wraps up the war years story and was meant to be the last in the series. Some years later the author wrote another one to tie everything up and I'm so glad she did.

Out of the Darkness Comes Light
1942:Britain is in the midst of the darkness, the fear, the horrendous bloodshed of war.For the Sutton clan,it is a time of dread that all Europe shares,of fear for the future, and oddly,of consummation and hope.
Love Blossoms As War Demolishes
Daisy Dwerryhouse still waits for her Keth and for the wedding she and all in Yorkshire's Rowangarth long for.But Keth is on a secret mission in France,so dangerous that the big question is:will the wedding ever happen?Love is in the air for Sebastian too.He has found the woman of his dreams, the landgirl Gracie, but she swears she will not fall in love in wartime. Can he change her mind?Drew is besotted by the spirited Kitty:he will inherit Rowangarth, and their future seems assured. Are they ships that pass in the night, rocked by the waves of war?
A Golden Future Beckons
For all the Suttons, these are years of changing horizons,of lose, and, ultimately,of finding. This grand saga of a family through two world wars reaches a triumphant conclusion.
For the next five years the British had to endure the bombing of their towns and cities in the Blitz, as well as attacks from flying bombs and rockets. In all 60,595 civilians were killed and 86,182 seriously injured. Rationing of food began in January 1940 and clothes in June 1941. By 1943, virtually every household item was either in short supply and had to be queued for, or was unobtainable.VE Day found Britain exhausted, drab and in poor shape, but justly proud of its unique role in gaining the Allied victory.

I’m really enjoying this Sutton family saga, and I think this may have been my favourite book of the series. Now starting on the fifth and final book, I’m going to be sad to finish the series.
