Rate this book
Covering both hand- and machine-sewing techniques, this inspiring, step-by-step guide introduces young crafters to the quirky art of patchwork design. Offering seven stylish projects that range from accessory pieces to cute, decorative gifts, each one opens the door to a new means of creative expression. Beginning with a small-scale quilt, this starter project covers all the basic tips and tricks of making satisfying patchwork pieces. An eye-popping pin cushion design offers a project that eager patchworkers can keep with them as they work on additional projects. Appealing to teenage crafters, another project involves a matching belt and bag—items young fashionistas will surely want to wear. Other projects include a heart decoration, a bedroom cushion perfect for a desk chair, and a bird pattern that pulls together all patchwork techniques into one final design. Accompanied by lessons in the rich history of patchwork, each modern piece utilizes attractive, bright, and beautiful fabric combinations.

This slim book is aimed at older children through teens, but I was looking for something that assumed no prior knowledge of the craft and with small easy projects so this fit the bill. I may or may not make any of the actual projects in the book but I think it will give me the background I need to create some simple projects of my own.
