Baby Boomers Rock

This is the first book I read by this author and it won't be the last.

Carol Andrews' daughter is getting married and Carol can't wait to plan the wedding. Surprise Jenny and Mark want a destination wedding on Nantucket and have even hired a wedding planner. Leaving Carol feeling like she is out of the loop.
And Nancy, her very best friend since 3rd grade has just found out her husband is having an affair and wants a divorce.
The best part is that the wedding planner Tiffani is Bob's new love.

On the ferry to Nantucket Carol runs into Bob who plans to surprise Tiffani. Bad idea. Tiffani is found dead at the bottom of the spiral staircase that claimed a life 200 yrs ago and Carol sees Bob over her body.

I found this book a pure joy. In fact it wasn't like reading a book but having a friend tell you the story over a cup of coffee. Now to read the first 2 in the series.
Another wonderful author I found.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I have really enjoyed the Baby Boomer Mystery Series. I really enjoyed this one until the last few chapters too.

Carol Andrews is a great character and her “Beloved” Jim wasn’t even driving me crazy this time as he had in previous installments. I enjoy that the story is told from Carol’s point of view and the reader is even treated to what she is thinking. She also converses directly with the reader at times. This really makes her sense of humor shine and makes us chuckle as well.

I love the idea of a destination wedding and Nantucket sounds like an ideal place to have one.

Santangelo crafted a great murder too and was very clever to connect the current murder to another death that happened in the exact same place many years ago. The book was well written and was flowing perfectly.

Then suddenly the topic of cyber-bullying is introduced and the whole thing started to fall apart for me. I just didn’t believe the final outcome of the mystery. This theme needed to be developed more and sooner in the story to make it credible for me.

But the thing that really turned me off was the way two very important parts of the story, events that were building throughout the entire book are wrapped up in the final chapter with Carol basically telling us what happened or what her “beloved” allowed her share with us. I really felt cheated. Like I was one of the wedding guests cut from the final list of invitations but was invited over to look at the pictures months after the event happened. This isn’t meant to be a spoiler but it really fits one of the two important things that happened.

I have the next book in the series, Class Reunions Can Be Murder, coming up in my reading schedule soon and I sure hope it doesn’t end like this one. I really like Carol and her family including her canine kids.

"Marriage is finding that special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life."

Carol & Jim Andrews' daughter Jenny wants a destination wedding in Nantucket in early December. Jenny & Mark hire Cinderella Weddings and their consultant is Tiffani. Carol's BFF Nancy 's husband Bob has just left her for a younger woman - yep - Tiffani.
Lovely tour of Nantucket ends with Tiffani dead at the bottom of the stairs of their hotel.
Carol is working on a newspaper story about cyber-stalking when Jenny confides she thinks two elderly men in her college night class are stalking her.
Destination Wedding tips are included in this book.

Carol Andrews has mixed feelings about the announcement of her daughter’s wedding plans. Although she’s thrilled (having paged through bridal catalogues for years) she is disappointed that Jenny and fiancé Mark want to hand over the arrangements to a wedding planner at Cinderella Weddings. Their reason being, they want a destination wedding on Nantucket, and the wedding is happening in two months. Add to this mix, one of Carol’s BFF, Nancy, is devastated when husband Bob has a mid-life crisis and announces he is leaving her for a younger woman named Tiffani (with a ‘i’). Carol suspects her beloved Jim might also be straying since he has begun wearing aftershave; and Tiffani turns out to be Jenny’s wedding planner, something that Nancy discovers. Just when things could not possibly get worse, Tiffani is found dead at the bottom of a haunted staircase at the Grey Gull Inn, where they are all staying, and Bob is the man Carol saw as she discovered the body. Is Bob the killer? On the other hand, is Jenny the real target, since Tiffani was found clad in a revealing negligée and a bridal veil? Is someone stalking Jenny after she noticed two elderly men who seem to be following her everywhere? Other mysterious themes wave tantalizing threads that Carol must tie up to leave no loose ends. Join Carol Andrews as she susses out the guilty party in this baby boomer-theme murder mystery.

This book is hilarious, largely due to author Susan Santangelo’s masterly description of what life is like as a baby boomer, from the increasing waistband to the weak bladder. However, fear not, this story is so funny that it will appeal to readers of all ages. I particularly enjoyed the amusing quotes that preface each chapter, reminding me of Erma Bombeck’s pithy, sidesplitting snippets. The author has a laid-back style, deftly weaving in her funny lines without overpowering the reader with a laugh-a-minute. Her super sleuth Carol Andrews is warm, funny, and knows how to poke fun at herself. The author's humour is dry, understated, and just perfect for the genre. Since this is the third book in the Carol and Jim Andrews Baby Boomer Mystery series, readers have much to enjoy. I laughed out loud. Very enjoyable. As an added bonus, the book includes an end section with tips on how to plan the perfect destination wedding (hopefully without a murder!).

This is the second Baby Boomer mystery I've read (though it's the third one in the series). I particularly enjoyed #1: Retirement Can Be Murder. This one, Marriage Can Be Murder, started well. I enjoy the protagonist, Carol, her group of women friends, and her English Cocker Spaniels. Carol shares her thinking with the reader and that is mostly pretty humorous! Unfortunately, the ending was not satisfying at all. Once Carol figured out the identity of her daughter's cyberstalker and then the murderer, the book just ended abruptly. There had been a huge buildup to the wedding, but the actual wedding was handled in just one sentence. Other loose ends were not tied up at all. So I was unpleasantly surprised when the book ended. Believe me I happily would read more books in this series but am not putting them at the top of my "to read" list.

Carol and Jim's daughter wants to get married in Nantucket. Jim can't understand why they can't get married at home like most people. Of course Carol talks Jim into going to Nantucket to talk to the wedding planner with the kids. Things are going along, when they spot the wedding planner kissing a man who looks a lot like the husband of one of their close friends. Things start going downhill. Carol has to get up in the night to go find the bathroom. She looks over the railing and sees a body of a bride laying at the bottom of the stairs. A man is standing over her crying and then he sees Carol and runs. The man is her friends husband. Did he kill the wedding planner?
This story is fun and fast paced. Lots of twists and turns. A surprise ending. A good read.

This was the third in the series. It was wonderful. Just loved Carol. Thought her husband Jim was a bit of a control freak. Ok well, she loves him. This book was about the marriage of her daughter. Needless to say, there was a dead body found, naturally. I loved all of Carol's friends and her two dogs. The dogs are smarter than all the people combined. Anyway, a short but really cute read. Pick this one to read (after the first two, of course) and enjoy!

First time reading this author and I really enjoyed this story. Carol, the main character, is a lot like all of us. I could really relate to her. I knew her hubby and recognized her kids. She has a knack for tripping over dead bodies. She also has a curious gene that won't let her rest until she figures out why this happened. I can't wait to read of her next adventure.

Watch out for that step!

While looking at venues for a wedding in Nantucket with her daughter, Carol finds a dead body - of course! And wouldn't you know it would be the wonderful wedding planner? And is that Carol's best friend's husband standing over the body crying? Love the sense of humor as Carol tells he story.

Marriage Can Be Murder By Susan Santangelo This was a great and unexpected murder mystery. The author brought out the loyality and care our pets give to us. The pets helped solve some of the mystery through their barking.

This is the second book I've read in the Baby Boomer mystery series and except for not being completely satisfied with the somewhat abrupt ending, I once again enjoyed spending time with Carol and Jim Andrews in Fairport, Connecticut. Their daughter, Jenny and her fiance Mark have decided to have a destination wedding in Nantucket. The four of them attend a Cinderella Weddings' bridal show at the West Fair Country Club. Jenny hires the founder of Cinderella Weddings, Tiffani Blake, to be their wedding planner. When the four of them travel to Nantucket to check out possible wedding locations, things are going fine until Tiffani dies under mysterious circumstances. There is a lot more to the story which I won't mention and spoil it for future readers, but needless to say it involves Carol, her best friend Nancy, and some sleuthing. I enjoy this series because I am a boomer and can relate to the characters. I also like the interaction with the Cocker Spaniels, Lucy and Ethel.

I have enjoyed all of Santangelo's mysteries. This one, however, was a little different. Carol and Jim's daughter is getting married to her boyfriend, whom she has known since grade school. Much to Carol's dismay, they was a very small, intimate wedding on Nantucket. WHen they go to the island to make plans, as usual, things begin to happen and Carol needs to put her sleuthing skills to work once more.

The difference between this and other mysteries that she has written is that this had two different threads since their was also a mystery involving her son and his wife. The ending seemed to be a rather hurried affair which was not as satisfying as her logical laying out of the solution to the case. Enjoyable but not up to her usual standards.

I doubt I will read other stories by this author. The asides during the story were annoying, as was the wrap up at the end. The plot took a turn that was not expected, but not in a good way. It came across as a cop-out.
I was bothered by the numerous errors, especially as the author has worked as an editor.
I gave this a 3 instead of a 2 because the story caught my attention enough to want to know what happened.

First of all, I've never been to Nantucket...drat!

This is the third of the series that I have read - yeah, out of order! But, the marriage part was going just great. It was some of the people "in charge" that made for all the ups and downs and mysteries. Carol has been learning how to use the internet, and it helps her sleuthing, but her daughter has to help her first! I still go to my 48-year-old son for help!!!

Carol is back at trying to solve yet another too-close-to-home murder. There is a lot in this book that is ridiculous (such as the reasons for having basically no one at the wedding) and those things often took me out of the story while I rolled my eyes. The writing is mediocre. The formatting on the Kindle makes it very hard to enjoy reading. The big reveal pretty much came out of left field. Marriage Can Be Murder is not a book to go out of your way to read.

Marriage Can Be Murder

Once again, the plot was well considered snd I didn't guess the identity of the killer until the end!
Jenny and Mark plan their wedding with the help of a wedding planner, who turns out to be dating Nancy's husband, Bob. Tiffani
is found dead and Bob is accused of killing her.
Fun read!

Another Excellent Baby Boomer Mystery

I thoroughly enjoy the cast of characters and the setting. (You still need an editor for typos, line breaks and such.) As usual in this series, no idea who did it until the very end. This book did however end rather abruptly and left me hanging as far as Marlee. Hmmmm.

DNF at 26%. A quarter way through & not much was happening. Writing was choppy (sentences broken up that should've been combined to make complete thoughts). It was also repetitive, & seemed to be focused on extraneous details. The murder hadn't happened yet, either. I wanted to get on with the crime solving!

I love this series!

I guess it takes a baby boomer to recognize the thoughts of all baby boomers. This is such great humor and real truths involved in the mystery. --rescued for book 4

Very good.

I just love the main characters. The family and friends are believable people. Didn't think of the old boyfriend. Kept me guessing. Thanks for entertaining me. I hope you'll write a fourth book with these characters.

Crazy, crazy smart lady!

Carol gets herself into turmoil regarding her daughters wedding, cyberstalking, murder of the wedding planner! With the help her 2 dogs, and childhood friends she comes out smelling like a rose! The author's humorous antidotes are great.

Read as part of March Mystery Madness 2018.

The mystery was fine. Plot, twist, resolution with a twist.

The characters were pretty one dimensional. Archetypal instead of relate-able.

Still, a nice afternoon read.

Really funny

I enjoyed this story. The way it was written, with mother telling what happened as if she was talking to you. The. Quotes at the under each made me laugh. The mother’s character was absolutely delightful.

Good series

This is the 3rd book in the series and have really enjoyed them. One thing is the ending is always wrapped up quickly and predictably where the characters reactions are concerned.

Very entertaining.

Reading these books is so much fun. Susan's humor is witty and down to earth. She's managed to draw me into her world. A place where I feel at home. A place where good friends can get together just to eat ice cream or just solve a murder.

I got tired of the voice of the narrator. The resolution seemed abrupt (though I was glad to get to the end) and not believable.
