Such a cute book featuring different type of hugs from different animals. The illustrations are paintings and they're gorgeous! Love the detail and how you can see the brushstrokes. I loved the illustrations so much! Plus I love cats so this was a win-win for me. The cat is so cute!
SPOILERS AHEAD:
The end was not what I expected at all! I totally thought it would be a human, but it was actually for its baby brother, which was surprising, but darling and lovely. This book could totally be read to a child who is expecting a baby brother or sibling in general. Plus if they love cats, they might like this book because of the cat. They're so cute!
Well known author illustrator Jane Cabrera, has started a series she calls Jane Cabrera’s Story Time. It has the same style as her other books; colorful illustrations with brush strokes visible and black outlines. The illustrations are accompanied by a large black typeface designed by the author herself. This particular title was first published in 2007 in the UK as Cat’s Cuddles. The reader follows a kitty and all its friends. They all cuddle together. A porcupine has a careful prickly cuddle, the big bear has a cozy fluffy cuddle, and armadillo a safe and friendly cuddle. The best cuddle is not with a friend but with someone very special. Find out in this lovely picture book for the very young. Written AD+ Pre-Kindergarten
Kitty simply adores cuddles, and she realizes that they come in different forms, depending on the animal doing the cuddling. The text and illustrations depict various cuddles while pondering which cuddle is Kitty's favorite. It might not be a surprise that the best cuddle of all comes from a new family member. I really liked the bright illustrations in this book and would imagine that many youngsters would as well. It's fun to guess what Kitty's favorite cuddle might be and then realize the sweetness of affection between two siblings. This picture book might be good to share with a child who is about to welcome a new brother or sister into the family. All I know is that it made me smile and feel all warm inside.
Kitty describes the different kinds of cuddles she gets from her friends, "Big Bear's cozy, fluffy cuddle" or "Happy Frog's squidgy, quidgy cuddle", for example. Who gives the best cuddles? At the end, she declares it's her new baby brother. Cute illustrations, lots of different animal friends. I can see this generating some fun discussions during toddler storytime. Perhaps a good pick for Valentine's?
Do love Cabrera's illustrations and this book does not disappoint on that front. Different animals cuddling Kitty in different ways is fun to share. The ending wrenched this book in a different direction and defines this book as a new sibling book. Having the readers turn to each other for the best kind of cuddle as an ending appeals to a wider audience
Satisfying, colorful illustrations. I really liked the alliterative vocabulary. Sometimes I get annoyed with what look like "made-up words," but then I remember that playing with the sounds that make up "real" words is great for early literacy development... and I get off my high-horse.
Kitty loves cuddles and cuddles with different animals, who have different types of cuddles. Who is the best? Encourages snuggling up together. If this one has a song or rhythm to it, I have no idea what it is.
Who is kitty's favorite to cuddle? Go through animals and adjectives. Little, squeeky mouse. Big, strong elephant. Baby brother is favorite. Good length, plenty to interact with. Good length for kindergarten, toddler, or shorter family book.
First, you should know this is a "new sibling" book, specifically baby brother. I was expecting a "Mama cuddles" finale, but nope! Also, the "safe, friendly" cuddle of the armadillo could transmit leprosy!
A kitten talks about hugging her friends who are differnt animals but. who is her favorite person to hug or cuddle? toddler and up. nice for new siblings
Though I really enjoyed the brightly-colored illustrations, this seems like a book I would give to a parent who wants books about a new sibling. I don't see wide enough appeal to use for storytime.
A board book about the different types of cuddles kitty might get from a variety of animals. Love the colors and textures. An equal number of pronouns would have been nice. The males dominate 2 to 1.
