I want to visit this house so badly in the future, so this was an awesome quick dive into the house and lives of the Washingtons with beautiful pictures of the house inside out, artifacts, and paintings as various points of their lives. This definitely made me feel more informed without spending hours in a biography and excited to see the house in person knowing these little tidbits of the house... for instance... did you know there is a missing painting where it's spot in the house is still vacant!!! Interesting little stories like that spot the book making it a fun read.

Picked up at Mount Vernon when I was a chaperone for my sons’ school trip in March 2024. Having had a very brief walk through tour of the mansion I wanted to know more about the estate. Brief paragraphs affirmed what I heard on the tour and in some cases embellished the information. Very brief biographies of George and Martha Washington at back of book also recommend references for further study.

Meant as a guidebook to the estate, it offers insight to the life of the first president of the United States as well as the times in which he lived. Interesting and informative, this short book is a real page turner.
