I read this back in 1986, I was only 12 and already had the wisdom to know that werewolves are awesome, after reading this I thought being one wouldnt be so bad. Another thing that i liked abut the story was that his girlfriend is wierd enough to not be too freaked out when she realizes what he is. She's actually calmer than he is about it and sticks by him. It teaches kids to just be themselves and not be worried by what people will think.

Think of this as a pre-cursor to the popular 80's film Teen Wolf. A 14-year old becomes a werewolf sporadically for two minutes and ion front of his best friend. Walt, our young wolf-boy, tries to figure out why he transforms for only two minutes and also finds himself embroiled into a robbery. Of course, there is a bit of a twist that many would now find predictable, but still a classic kids' book.

First, the title caught my eye. With a title like that it was impossible to ignore this story. A young boy called Walt discovers he can turn into a werewolf for two minutes but without exposure to the full moon! He and his best friend Cindy try to solve the mystery of these transformations all while navigating an unexpected chain of events.

A different experience of the teen wolf genre, a lighthearted slice of life piece that avoids the typical pathos, extensive world building and/or love triangles that are commonly found in most modern works of werewolf fiction (I'm looking at you, Twilight!). This story was adapted for TV in 1985 but there have been no plans to create more adaptions for the screen. If anyone did make a new movie of this story, I'm expecting more extensive changes to the source material. There is a surprising twist at the end of the book which I won't spoil for future readers. Trust me, you don't want to miss this story!

I found this book in my public library as a kid, and it has some good lessons about teamwork and self-sufficiency. Walt and Cindy make a great team, and Walter has nice parents. I also saw a VHS tape in the video section which I might need to watch. Great for fans of Goosebumps and The Bailey School Kids.

This book is out of print, but readers can access the e-book on Internet Archive.

Walt finds out at the age of 14 that he can change into a werewolf, not only can he change into a movie werewolf but a four legged wolf; too bad most people think he is an ugly dog.

Walt soon finds out he gots bigger probleums then trying to find out how he became a werewolf. He got bullies on side to take care of and trying to find out who's doing the burglaries around town. It might be the carnival that came into town or the bullies or even someone else.

This book was one I remember my son enjoying, and it's held up well. A light and inventive take on the teenage werewolf.
