An incredible achievement of a book. I’ve read the Gold Edition Revised version, and the depth of the (mostly optional) interconnected systems, all built upon a relatively simple mechanic is just mind boggling. The life path system is not strictly new from this game, still a good story and relationship generator, and again very coherently set within the systems.
Also has a very interesting way of representing the implications of Tolkienistic ancestries inherent and extreme characteristics (dwarven greed, elven grief, orc hate…).
For something that tends to be more on the narration than the simulation side, I did not expect this breadth (and depth) of options. Will I run it? Not sure, it is still very complex while not having much weight in the combat phase, which means it might not be easy to get it to the table, but I definitely will be thinking about running it for a long time…
Is this the non-simulationist Gurps ?
