Diego Marani works as a senior linguist for the European Union in Brussels.
Every week he writes a column for a Swiss newspaper in Europanto, a language he has invented. He also published a collection of short stories in Europanto, in France.
In Italian he has published six novels, the most recent being l'Amico della Donna.

Ich expectanted ein peu more from das buch. Les Adventures des Inspector Cabillot esse ein petit blande pour mein taste.

Inspector Cabillot esse ein polizero von die "Service des Bizarre Affairs" of Europeane Union in Brussel. Son chef, Captain What, tasks Cabillot with solvingante divers casos urgentes. Von das dépend der continuada und das survie van de EU! Das buch war gepublished in 1999 und muchos problemas of actuel EU, includingante der Brausgang, esse far down la strada.

At latest after die terza story, you shal finden ripetiziones und die absurdity seem costruita to mí. There esse quelques laughingante matters, Ich zugive, mais not suffisant. Ich have alcunas horas laughingante passed lecturando las Adventures des Inspector Cabillot. Speak tu nicht Europanto? Keine problema, lecture firstamente capitulo novo “De Europanto Bricotouristiche Guide”. Diese curso quickissimo give toi eine gut understanding van Europanto. Inspector Cabillot esse eine europeane polizero qui, mit seine sidekick Psychodramma, eine Greeka cyclopa, luche contra terroristos, crimen und mucho anderes peligros. Just read it. The story is irrelevant, the book is an exercise in linguistics. It is written in the constructed language of Europanto with a mixed vocabulary of English, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish that started as a joke my the author (an EU interpreter). The fun is that, with knowledge of English and at least one romance language, the reader can understand it quite quickly. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/220... I like the idea on a linguistic level but the stories are so bad and full of misogyny, racism, fatphobia etc etc that they're hardly funny or entertaining.

Ah! Je dois me décider pour une langue. Comme je ne parle pas Europanto, je prends le français, mais je ne suis pas sûr si je devrais...

Mon premier contact avec Diego Marani étaient une série d'histoires apparues dans une revue, je crois que professionnelle, et écrites en Europanto. Je l'avais trouvé amusant et très intéressant, moi-même étant à l'époque dans le business des langues. Plus tard, je visitais un jour Ferrara, où Marani est né, et je vois dans une librairie son livre Nuova grammatica finlandese, qui est tout à fait sérieux. Il m'a beaucoup plus. Finalement, ce juin passé, j'ai croisé Marani dans un hôtel de luxe à Bangkok, à côté du fleuve sillonné de navires allumés (c'était le soir et il faisait nuit). Bon, je l'ai aussi vu le lendemain dans une salle de réunion, mais ce n'est pas si romantique, n'est-ce pas?

Tout ça pour dire qu'il fallait que je finisse bien par lire les aventures de son inspecteur Cabillot dont j'avais lu quelques histoires. J'ai vraiment aimé. Les histoires sont simples et sans trop d'intérêt, mais la langue est délicieuse. C'est ça que j'aime chez Marani, sa maîtrise de la langue et son intérêt par la langue. Le bouquin sur la grammaire finnoise était déjà une réflexion sur les langues. Mais les aventures de Cabillot regorgent d'inventions linguistiques incroyables du type: alstubitte, aweg, zuback, todag, merdenshit, etc.

Cabillot ne sera pas un sommet de la littérature, sauf de la littérature europantéenne. Sans doute faute d'adversaire! Mais, pour n'importe quel lecteur qui ait des connaissances d'anglais, français, italien, allemand, néerlandais, espagnol et latin (ouf!) il restera un divertissement aimable et de bon souvenir.

"Ty už čteš i francouzsky?" zeptala se mě známá, když na stolku zahlédla tuhle knihu.

Ne, není to francouzsky. I když vlastně trochu ano. A není ani anglicky, ani německy, natož španělsky či italsky a už vůbec ne holandsky. Ale každého z těchto jazyků se tam trochu najde. Tohle je europanto, směsice (západních) evropských jazyků, která je v mysli autora společným a sjednoceným jazykem Evropské unie budoucnosti.

Pořád mi přijde tak trochu překvapivé, že se tomu ve výsledku dá rozumět, i když většinu těch jazyků vůbec neovládám, jenom jsem třeba někde pochytila pár slovíček. Autor tomu pomáhá, jak může - kniha je psaná hodně jednoduše a když už se tam vyskytne nějaké méně časté slovíčko, obvykle je pro jistotu anglicky.

A o čem že to vlastně je? Jde o sbírku potrhlých povídek, ve kterých je inspektor Cabillot z evropské policie vysílán do různých zemí na záchranu EU před padouchy, kteří snovají zlotřilé plány - například vydírají Unii, aby nahradila krásné europanto nesrozumitelnou finštinou. Jindy zase vyšetřuje, proč k pobřeží Itálie připlula obří pizza. Zápletky nejsou nijak propracované, spíše jim vládne humor, který si nejraději střílí z různých národních stereotypů. Sám o sobě by tenhle obsah na dobrou knihu nestačil, ale když přičtu originální jazyk, nakonec jsem se bavila docela dobře a párkrát se i zasmála.

De first libro in lingo Europanto. The historia es nicht zum zu hause writen, mais la lingua est unik! Une mischung van English, Germanica und Francese, un poco italiano und hispanico et eine pinch andere sprachen.
