An emotive blockbuster, that has you sniveling for the last hundred pages or so, to the ultimate page and its satisfying ending. Linda, a 21 yr old aspiring actress, finally gets her break in the lead female role of a new play, set to tour and then play in London. The book follows Linda for the duration of the play, giving a detailed view into the theatre world and her personal life, as well as what it takes and what it means to be an actor. There are many themes, surviving and superseding the past, growing up, finding yourself, childhood trauma, personal vs public perception and so on, wrapped up in a tense, enjoyable read, in John Coates signature playwright style. Not likely to inspire one to a life of acting and not quite as polished a book as Patience, by the same author, but very powerful and very candid.
