In the aftermath of the Isstvan V massacre, a group of Salamanders survivors lay a trap for their foes, a group of unwary Night Lords on the hunt for easy prey.

"Guy Haley's 'Strike and Fade' is a wonderful tribute to the Fire-born, steeped in all the ash, fire and righteous fury I've come to associate the Salamanders with." – Nick Kyme

March 2024 Re-Listen using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project Reading Order - Omnibus VII Anvil of War (https://www.heresyomnibus.com/omnibus...) as part of my Oath of Moment to complete the Horus Heresy saga and extras

I bumped this up a star from my last review because within the context of saga I found this to have more emotional weight conveyed through the writing and performance and judging it within the bounds of being a Black Library Advent Calendar short it does a lot with a little. I do still want a bit more though.

Through using the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project (www.heresyomnibus.com) and my own choices, I have currently read 13.41 Horus Heresy novels, 6 novellas, 36 short stories/ audio dramas, as well as the Macragge's Honour graphic novel, 7 Primarchs novels, 3 Primarchs short stories/ audio dramas, and 2 Warhammer 40K further reading novels...this run. I can't say enough good about the way the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project suggestions. I'm loving it! Especially after originally reading to the releases and being so frustrated at having to wait so long for a narrative to continue.

Initial Review 3/5

Short and sweet ambush adventure for Salamanders surviving on Isstvan V. Very much a Black Library Advent Calendar offering.

Too short to really do much, but the action is decent and there's an a attempt at an emotional moment that doesn't really cone off.

This was one of the better done audio dramas. The story was pretty cool, and the sound/music (mostly) matched the scene, it seems too many audio dramas don't obther to match the sound effects to the actual story as it's happening, so when they (almost) get it right, I have to complement them on their work. Pretty good short piece, and fans ot the series should thoroughly enjoy this short piece.

Audio effects and voices were good. Very short story, only 10 minutes long. A squad of Salamanders that survived the initial betrayal on Istvan V and attacks a group of Night Lords.

Brief but entertaining story.

Four Salamanders who have survived the initial massacre on Isstvan V continue to fight on despite the odds against them.

Not a ton going on. Just some salamander warriors trying to evade a superior force. Pretty short. Pretty good though.

An awesome audio drama pitting salamander survivors of the Istvaan massacre against Night lords. It's a very short drama but manages to give us some awesome characters as well as rock hard action!
Unfortunately, even though the narrator tells us otherwise, the Night lords never really felt like that much of a threat in this story. Never hitting with a single shot and never reaching close combat is a bit of a pity. Well the were taken by surprise, but still?
Either way, an awesome story and I do recommend it to anyone who's fond of the Istvaan massacre and what happened afterwards.

As a 10 minute short audio we are given a brief snap-shot of the immediate aftermath of the Isstvan V drop-site massacre.

Hiding from traitor patrols four Salamander's take what vengeance they can while trying to stay alive. Ambushing a Nighlords patrol the warriors end the suffering of a tortured Raven Guard warrior.

Pretty good story, the black library audio's certainly benefit from the use of a cast of voice actors.

Amazing short, getting to see the Salamanders on Istvaan V was a treat!
I love the humanity of the Salamanders, as it is something interesting in a Space Marine. Really good stuff. This makes me look forward to Scorched Earth and Vulkan Lives!

I have come to expect a higher quality for the sound effects in a Warhammer/HH audio.

Action story featuring Salamanders laying ambushes to Horus's allies.

Again, pretty short but unlike Veritas Ferrum it has an ending (no matter how bitter).

Short audio that could have been longer and better cause of it. Night Lords doesn't strike the kind they should be
