From the 'Producers' and the 'Paparazzi' to the 'Starlets' and the 'Stars', The Bluffer's Guide to Insider Hollywood contains all the well-kept industry secrets sure to make you a hit in the hills.
I received a copy of this novel from Bluffers Media Limited in exchange for my review.
“The Bluffer’s Guide to Insider Hollywood” reminds readers that you have only one chance to make a good first impression and this text can help you know the ins and outs of the industry from the history to old Hollywood to new Hollywood and even where an insider goes to get away and the best place to die. Hollywood tends to be inherently silly and Whitehall plays this fact up in her guide.
Whitehill tells us that “Hollywood is a town…of endless self promotion” (Page 28). “The Bluffer’s Guide to Insider Hollywood” is divided into logical headers introducing bite size defitions for the reader (“Waiter, Bartender or Pilates Instructor means unemployed actor”) and guiding readers motivated to break in to the select circle. Included are instructions on how to make a good first impression and key words in other languages to smooth your way in with the crowd. The glossary was an entertaining as the text and means it in a very positive way.
I’m a bit of a pop culture sponge so enjoyed the history of the movies paired with the history of key locations. I can’t attest to if it’s factual of not. What I can say is that told with the dry humor of this author I’m ready to believe and isn’t that what this Guide is really all about? The key message is conveying an ability to convince people that you know about something whether you do or not. I do know that you won’t get too much farther in your bluffing career if you die at the Chateau Marmot but I suppose it’s all about planning for the end game.
“The Bluffer’s Guide to Insider Hollywood” is written in a way that makes the 109 pages seem almost too short. I absolutely adore this work. If you’re looking to break into insider Hollywood I have to think that there are many valid tips in this work. If you’re looking to be entertained and like dark and observational humor, “The Bluffer’s Guide to Hollywood” is absolutely the book for you. Pick it up immediately if not sooner.
