Dr. Ruth Beechick spent a lifetime teaching and studying how people learn. She taught in Washington state, Alaska, Arizona and in several colleges and seminaries in other states. She also spent thirteen years at a publishing company writing curriculum for churches. In "retirement" she wrote for the homeschool movement. Her degrees are A.B. from Seattle Pacific University, M.A.Ed. and Ed.D. from Arizona State University.
This pamphlet was the perfect amount of encouragement and practical tips to get me started teaching reading to my oldest. Ruth Beechick has a direct way of addressing the reader that encouraged me and made me feel like this task is simpler than I had built it up to be in my head. With this boost of confidence, we have started the journey!
When considering homeschooling, teaching my girls to read ranks as one of the to things I am most intimated by. This books lays out simple ways to teach your children to read which gives me a little more confidence (though still pretty terrified 🤣).
You cannot go wrong with Ruth Beechick's booklets. Short and to the point, I believe you can teach any child to read just using these simple methods. Ruth Beechick's is one of the grand dames of education and these little instructional guides are timeless!
