This unforgettable, beautifully produced anthology brings together over three hundred of the best loved poems to open the door of the imagination and take children on an exploration of the fun and wonder of rhyme and verse. The treasury is divided into four sections, corresponding to age and includes the work of celebrated modern writers such as Michael Rosen, Roald Dahl and Sylvia Plath, as well as selections from Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll, T. S. Eliot and many more.
Michael Rosen, a recent British Children’s Laureate, has written many acclaimed books for children, including WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, and I’M NUMBER ONE and THIS IS OUR HOUSE, both illustrated by Bob Graham. Michael Rosen lives in London.
Poetry comes in all shapes, sizes, topics and age levels. In this cute little book the book can go from nursery rhymes to poems by Shakespeare. Its a whole new level of variety of poems. This book can be read to or by all sorts of ages, after reading this book I read certain poems over and over again because they were just that great I was abled to read again and not get tired of it. This book has so much imagery including the beautiful illustration on every page. It just was an overall wonderful book, no matter what age, gender or anything else for that matter, anybody could read this and learn the poems or nursery rhymes so easily, they would get stuck in your head.
This is my favorite collection of children's poetry. It wonderfully combines fun, playful poems with beautiful classic poetry. It is organized into sections by age group which is really appropriate and allows this collection to appeal to children (and adults!) throughout childhood. So happy to have this book!
This is a very useful resource for supporting poetry teaching in primary schools. I have not yet read all of the poems within this book, however, I have read poems from each section. This has given me a great insight into the different levels of poetry with the information of which poems are best suited to each year/age group. I believe rhythms and rhymes within poems engage children in their learning creating a fun learning environment which is extremely memorable to children.
