Terence W. Barrett, PhD, graduated from the College of Wooster, Ohio, in 1971 with a BA in Psychology. He served seven years as an aviation officer in the United States Marine Corps, and earned advanced degrees from the University of Southern California, North Dakota State University, and the University of North Dakota. He is a licensed psychologist in full-time private practice in Fargo, ND, and is presently the clinical consultant for the Fargo Vet Center and NDSU’s Athletic Department. Dr. Barrett‘s professional experience includes work with adult survivors of childhood trauma, sexual assault, torture, crime, war, and combat experience. He has provided consultations for caregivers throughout the United States and for some as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Europe. He conducts seminars on a variety of current therapy issues and has provided over 100 professional presentations throughout the United States, incorporating his experience as a clinical therapist, forensic evaluator, and university educator. He designed the Grief Experience Questionnaire, which has been utilized in numerous international studies and has been translated into five foreign languages. He currently teaches at NDSU, including Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Behavior Modification, Understanding Suicide, and Understanding Self-Injury courses. He has been listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers three times. He is the author of Life After Suicide: The Survivor’s Experience, a book about the grief process following a suicide, and has recently completed Semper Fidelis: A Psychological Study of Heroic Bravery. His current clinical specialties include post traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, conflict resolution, dynamics of power, and encounters with bullies.
