A history of The Dalles written by (now deceased) owners of Klindts' bookstore, the oldest bookstore in Oregon. A brief overview of the town from since Lewis and Clark and the Oregon Trail. Did you know there were at one time 32 saloons? And that the downtown caught on fire, flooded, caught on fire, flooded... The first talkie (movie theater showing pictures with sound) of west of the Mississippi was built here.

Lots of information in this small volume. Interesting to me probably because I just like history ... it gives me a sense of stability knowing the past of the area in which I live. Published posthumously, so glad friends of the authors accomplished the task. Makes me wish I could have known Philip and Linda Klindt. Will remain committed to shopping in their book store!
