This books felt very choppy and jumped from topic to topic with no transitions. It also ended on a very strange note just stating everyone died and now it’s a big clinic. Not sure what age this is oriented towards because the contents id say are 13+ but the writing style is for 8-11 or so.

I grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. Everything there is named after the Mayo family. I even went to Mayo High School. But I really didn’t know a whole lot about the Mayo brothers, who founded the world famous Mayo Clinic. This is a fairly simple biography, with short chapters, told as a narrative. It was most interesting to me for the local stuff—how their initial hospital was “outside of town,” the help from the local nuns whose residence I have visited, etc. The history of the Mayo brothers, though is in part a history of surgery, so those interested in early medicine would also find it interesting.

A great summary on the Mayo brothers. I like starting with simple and then getting to the details!

This was a good introduction to the Drs. Mayo and how they started a world-class medical center. Good for kids.
