An adrenalin junkie war correspondent and her reluctant male guide seek thecrash site of the last fixed wing CIA plane to escape Saigon nearly forty years ago---a plane carrying a dark secret and a 500 year old golden icon depicting the greatest female warrior in Indochinese history. But they will soon find themselves on the run from two very powerful and dangerous men in this treacherous world of triple-canopy mountain jungle, unexploded bombs, bandits and poachers.
So much flair and excitement. Sites of the jungle and peoples of the area contribute to the majestic fight to the finish. Love the skill with which this tale was formed.
Armed with her grandfather's Viet Nam era maps and journal, Kiera Hunter, a strong-willed woman on a mission sets out to find her grandfather's fallen plane in the dense jungles of Laos, where it may still hold an ancient artifact, a golden statue treasured by the Buddists. She convinces Porter Vale to serve as her guide in a race to obtain the relic before two former military men with intelligence backgrounds obtain the statue for the wealth it can bring them.
The author has described rice paddies, the humidity, the denseness of the jungle so very well, one can almost hear the bugs buzzing around. Both main characters are strong and determined showing a great will to succeed against all odds. The tale is well-told and fast-paced, never bogging down for a minute as Kiera and Porter are finding love, if nothing else.
I liked this book very much. I love books that give you an opportunity to learn as well as a good storyline. Several times during the course of the book I was on the internet to learn about different subjects in the book... it is clear that the author did his research, the book is informative as well as non stop action. This is definite winner, you can't lose starting this novel, and you won't be putting it down till the last sentence is read.
