A little dated, but helpful in laying out the basics of home theater. However, if you're not a true audiophile, you can just skip the book and by a home theater in a box. You'll probably like it fine. Do compare models so you can think through which features are important to you. This approach worked for me.

How Home Theatre and HDTV Work by M. Miller. Great book! Could not find in good read library.
