This is the larger woman's essential guide to garment construction. Designed to meet the needs of the basic sewer, Sewing for Plus Sizes guides the reader through such important steps as selecting designs, colors and fabrics that will enhance plus-size figures.
This book along with her class on Craftsy really. Has gotten me going altering patterns to fit me. She goes through in detail the different elements at work and how to modify for width, length, bust size and for special characteristics a plus size woman can display. You do not need the book to take the class. But having the book it is much easier to view at a glance a modification rather than winding through tons of video.
This is a great book. I learned to alter patterns to fit MY body. Barbara Deckert also teaches a Craftsy.com class that goes along with the book. I bought the book first and it covers much of the information in the online class, but I recommend both. I can finally wear shirt with non-stretchy fabric that buttons down the front and still has a waist! Yay!
A very well-explained book that assists the reader in better understanding how to adjust patterns for larger sizes as well as explaining some of the body shapes that plus size women fall into without it feeling like being shamed.
It is more a guide than a manual and is easy to read.
