I am going to go ahead and give this book 5 stars, and not just because I actually finished it and wasn’t the type of book I would have picked up for myself if I walked by it. A friend actually let me the borrow the book and I was kind of skeptical.
It is getting 5 stars because I found myself relating to a lot of the content. I often found myself saying or doing a lot of the things in the book. The good and bad foods, feeling guilty for eating something I wanted but always “why did I eat that” soon to follow. Where did we ever decide good and bad food. It really is about enjoying life and having things in moderation.
Honestly a lot of stuff in this book is things that anyone who has ever tried to lose weight could relate to, and also things we know. Is eating pizza, burgers, sweets and fries everyday good for you, no, of course it isn’t. We know this. The secret really is just that...moderation.
I have these days that you want to give up, but most of that comes with weeks of “doing good” and seeing no results. Something that really grabbed my attention was near the end of the book “eat for overall health, not just for weight management. It is Important to understand that these are not the same thing. In fact as long as you eat fewer calories than your body burns, you will lose weight no matter which foods you choose. However, your physical health and vitality would suffer if you choose to eat only potato chips and candy bars or for that matter just, lettuce and apples.”
This really makes me think of something my bff said to me and I often think of it. I’ve lost the most weight when I was happy. More words have never been truer. You can be conscious to what you put in your mouth, but you have to live and enjoy the life you have at the same time and not just think about food 24/7 and beating yourself up thinking you are doing it all wrong.
I learned some new and helpful ways to look at food. I found the workbook was very good. The information in the workbook is short and brief with food journals included. The book was hard to get through, but very detailed with fitness and nutrition also.
Very good and with helpful tips and thoughts on weight loss. Read in conjunction with a physician instructed course at my local hospital. I don't know how much good this workbook style book would be on its own without the course.
A good "non-diet" book for those who feel like they've tried everything. My doctor recommended, and I'm glad I picked it up. If you're struggling, give it a go.
