I picked this book up because my sister had read it and the title grabbed my attention. The author is very witty and charming but there is quite a bit of language in it that I did not like. Also, with my religious background, the issues in the book did not relate to me in many ways. But there were many quotes that I enjoyed and I had to jot them down.

"Your goal should not be to 'get married' or even to be with someone; it should be to get to know yourself and be happy with who you are and then find someone who will love, respect, appreciate, and cherish you while growing with you as a human being."

"By now, we should know that nothing in this life is guaranteed, and certainly most things worth having are not just given to us. Now, the positive side of this is that we have quite a bit of power over how our lives turn out in that we can choose to work on all of the things that make us unhappy, so that when we do meet the person we want to spend the rest of our life with, we won't bring these things into the relationship and bog it down."

"The fact is, marriage might provide a sense of security in a relationship, but it will not change what lies at the core of each individual."

"The fact is, being married to someone isn't love; being in love with someone is love."

"Every single day is nothing but a blank sheet of paper-a twenty four hour block that offers a fresh opportunity to change the pace, tone, and direction of your life. You decide what your lead character will think, feel, and do. Will she be proactive or reactive" Will she give up or move on? Will she embrace life and take risks or be trapped in her routine? The question is: Will you make sure it is a happy one? Will your story be interesting, or will it be the same thing on every page? Will it be a comedy or a drama?"

"While companionship is a viable need, it is neither your only need nor is it something that will fill in the gaps of the other areas if they are missing. A man will only enhance and reflect what is already there. Your life is a reflection of what you put out, and there are mirrors all around you. The question to ask is: 'Am I happy with what I see?'"

"Education is far sexier that three-inch slippers."

"Your surroundings are a reflection of you and how you feel inside."

"Give your attention to those who give you attention, and your respect to those who respect you."

This is a witty one. Never forgot to tie up the Cinderella language with our modern times. Funny I asked my now ex boyfriend to buy me this as a gift for a friend and it ended up staying on my bookshelves.
I guess each toad is different. I realized as the last one hopped away with a new girl. But this is about the book and not me and sometimes I find truth with what she wrote. Some ladies are just too damn desperate that they would really just go for the guy who is already involved. Let's learn to know ourselves. Not through our partners but with our experiences and who we really are.
Thumbs up! and I will definitely recommend this to my daughter.

I found the book much too snarky for my taste. A snarky comment every paragraph? Maybe. But every sentence? Give me a break. Maybe that's the way to go in New York, but it got tiresome quickly. I gave up after Chapter 1 and didn't bother to finish reading it.

This was on a table at a house for a guy friend I cat sit for. Them being a pretty typical Bachelor, it was a surprising find in their space, so I decided to take a peek.

It's a pretty typical daters guide book. It was entertaining and requested that the readers take deeper looks at the impossibly high standards they have for their others and then to reevaluate them on the basis that the ideal is too high and that they themselves are inherently flawed and should do some self work themselves before settling into accepting a more realistic set of ideals in the people they date.
