Personal Finance for Dummies: For Canadians

Rate this book
This First Edition of Statistics moves the curriculum in innovative ways while still looking relatively familiar. Statistics utilizes intuitive methods to introduce the fundamental idea of statistical inference. These intuitive methods are enabled through statistical software and are accessible at very early stages of a course. The text also includes the more traditional methods such as t-tests, chi-square tests, etc., but only after students have developed a strong intuitive understanding of inference through randomization methods. The text is designed for use in a one-semester introductory statistics course. The focus throughout is on data analysis and the primary goal is to enable students to effectively collect data, analyze data, and interpret conclusions drawn from data. The text is driven by real data and real applications. Although the only prerequisite is a minimal working knowledge of algebra, students completing the course should be able to accurately interpret statistical results and to analyze straightforward data sets.

Learning how to manage one's finances should be mandatory in schools, and the fact that its not is a national tragedy.

This is the first "... for Dummies" that really could be written for dummies. It was incredibly simple and aimed at the complete novice.

That said, it is thorough and may be useful for someone just starting to look at their personal finances. Maybe a young couple or someone just finishing school. Also, some advice is a little dated now and I recommend getting a current-year version.

I'm just glad it came from th library and not the store.

This is a good beginner book on the topic and it would be great used in a first course as a study guide. Covers everything in 440 pages from investing to getting out of debt to lower insurance rates it has something for anyone trying to control their money. The lack of pictures means this book is full of information which is great value for its cost. A good beginning book for getting the most from your money.

This was an interesting look at the advice people are getting out there. As a financial professional I find the advice sound for rhe most part. I always find the dislike of financial advisors interesting, but I admit I'm definitely biased.
People need to know these things, and for now books like this are the only solution other than financial education.

This book is helpful for learning basic concepts and ideas but if you want to get specific about certain topics I’d recommend a different book. It is good for reinforcing information you have already learned though!

It’s a full picture guide, connecting everything together within your personal finance. You leave the conversation fully understanding the pros and cons to each topic and given prompts on where to look for specific information. It was an easy read, with tons of useful information.

Helpful advice, although I don't have much to compare it to. It is well-written so I managed to not get too depressed or bored :)

Very good and easy to understand. I picked this up from local library but I think this should be a book that one owns so that they may re-read it over a few times.
