The Turkeybird Speaks (My 3 year old son's opinion): Bugs really are so cool! I can completely understand why Matt has to get this bug. It’s so neat looking and think about what everyone would say about it. I mean what’s a little cold compared to a really cool looking bug? My mom actually has shown me some of these types of bugs and they’re so neat. They have really long wings and super skinny bodies. I’d try to catch one too if I saw it near my house.

If you’re a bug lover like me, I’d say you have to pick up this book! You will love Matt and his bug he catches!

Mom’s Two Cents (My review): Matt is a boy on a mission. No matter what gets in his way, be it a cold or water puddles, he is not going to let this once in a lifetime bug get away. His determination to win the top prize at the school Bugs-A-Fair may land him in trouble after all when he spreads the bug he catches by way of a cold to his fellow students.

The Bug That Plagued the Entire Third Grade is an adorable book perfect for bug lovers of all ages. The Turkeybird especially loves it, as he’s in a stage where anything that creeps or crawls is quite cool. Featuring the Hine’s Emerald Dragonfly (pictured above), it’s actually a favorite of our family. My family has long felt that dragonflies are a sign of good luck to come and I’m always excited to show one to the kiddos when one lands in our back yard. So it was definitely a treat to find that the book centered around this very unique bug we’ve grown to love.

Lori Calabrese is an extremely talented writer. Her story has a cadence and rhythm that makes reading it out loud very enjoyable, something little ones can also appreciate. The underlying story about germs and the importance of being mindful of others is also something everyone could use a refresher course in. The Bug That Plagued the Entire Third Grade is a delightful book with a determined main character, one that many young readers will relate to and enjoy.

Boys and bugs go hand-in-hand! At least that's the case with Matt and the supposedly very rare bug he captured and the all to common flu bug he caught too. Matt is on a fast paced mission to win the Bug-A-Fair. His goal is to top Nicholas and his dinosaur bone. He looks through his book of backyard bugs and can't seem to find which bug it is.
When Matt arrives to his class that is when things get really interesting. With one big sneeze from Matt the bug escapes his jar. The mysterious bug plagues the class room by getting into Nick's apple juice, Mrs. Walters hair, and Sue's apple sauce.
And while the mystery bug is buzzing about so is Matt. As he tries to capture is prize insect he unknowingly is spreading the other microscopic bug around the entire classroom. You will have to read the story to see if Matt catches his mystery bug and if anyone else in the class catches the flu bug.

This wonderfully animated and colorful book will have readers turning the pages to see what happens next. The rhyming will send your tongue twisting and bouncing with every word. Parents and teachers will love this book along with anyone who loves a bug adventure.

When Matt finds an unfamiliar insect, he dreams of winning first prize in the Bug-A-Fair at school. But on the day of the event, he wakes up with sniffles. Between bugs in jars and Matt’s cold germ “bug,” the third grade is in for an exciting day.

The Bug that Plagued the Entire Third Grade was a fun read. I loved how the author incorporated the double meaning of the word “bug” to create a clever, amusing story. The colorful, cartoon-like illustrations fit the story well, showing characters’ emotions and adding to the humor.

I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a funny story, told in rhyme. “The Bug” would work well for reading aloud to a class and would make an entertaining supplement for an elementary health, science or language arts curriculum.
