Sometimes, you need a low/no-risk romance with just a general congeniality between the hero and heroine; and, if you need to ignore the sometimes sudden mood swings between them, well, that's alright too!

And...that's that story in a nutshell, pretty much.

The heroine, Annamae (who I sometimes pronounced as "Annemarie" in my mind, don't know why), was taken in by carnival owners Howard and Ellie, who have since raised her as their own child after her own family was massacred by Shawnee people. Annamae since then has had to work for the carnival interpreting dreams, which she doesn't like at all because she feels like a phony who takes money for nothing, and also attracts unwanted attention--from a disgusting drooling man in particular, as a matter of fact.

When Howard finds and captures Grey Stone, a young Blackfoot brave who has wandered away from his vision question, she finally makes up her mind to escape the carnival, taking Gray Stone and a young bear cub with her. Afterwards, they're reunited with Gray Stone's uncle, chief Cougar, who of course is also Annamae's love interest.
___________

The story, thankfully, is very straightforward, the any "misunderstanding" parts or parts where Annamae keeps changing from one emotion to another with no real rhyme or reason were very short and easy to ignore, so overall they didn't put a damper on the story for me. It's just a very straightforward story is what I will say, with some action, but no angst or anything grueling happening to either the hero or heroine. Overall, therefore, I appreciated it a lot as a lighter read, and think it's one of the Savage series books that I like more from what I've read so far! Definitely one to buy as a paper copy someday!

The one star was solely for an amusement factor, not the quality of the writing.

My review:
WTF? Nine year old have written a more coherent story. The amount of detail in this book couldn't even fill a teaspoon. And the detail that IS used is completely unecessary. Her characters have the intellect of fleas. Their decision making process is...well, non-existant. And someone needs to remove the exclaimation key and ellipses on the keyboard.

What I learned from this book:
Bear cubs make good pets
Indians like hand jobs
Indians knew the word 'AWESOME'
It is possible to think coherently while having a total orgasm
People drool when they're scared
Native Americans are totally up on their western metaphors
It's apparently physically possible to move one's knee up to a woman's thigh while your dick is still buried deep inside her
Native American cheifs talk like the discovery channel.

I liked it, it,s another savage romance by cassie edwards, showing the native americans as having the same feelings as we do and able to love white people and all people, not just their own kind, and that they weren,t the savage killers history has sometimes tried to make them out to be

usually Cassie Edwards is an automatic 5 star for me but not this time....
Annamarie was sent down to the fruit cellar to get beans foe supper when she heard a lot of war hoots coming from many indians. she hid the best she could in the cellar hoping and praying the indians wouldnt find her. when she did go back up she discovered that her parents and her 8 month old brother were brutally murdered by the renegade indians..
Howard and Ellie came upon Annamarie and saw what happened. they buried her family then chose to raise Annamarie as their own. Howard and Ellie ran a carnival and traveled from town to town, all was well until Annamarie was old enough to start working for the carnival .
The first meeting between Annamarie and Cougar was not a good one.
once things were cleared up they were able to look at each other differently. They had to repeatedly tell the white men that kept coming to get her to take her back home that she was staying.
I loved the storyline, it was filled with suspence and wanting you to keep turning pages to find out what was going to happen next.... I HATED the love connection between Annamarie and Cougar... They met each other on Monday, hated each other, Tuesday they loved each other, Wednesday Hated each other, Thursday Annamarie said I will be your bride and Cougar said ok, Friday they were married..... not exactly how it happened but pretty close....so disappointing for a Cassie Edwards story... Absoulutley no build up for the romance, maybe that comes AFTER the marriage? I guess They all cant be 5 stars.

I had read this book out of curiosity. I didn't like the story because it was boring and slow to get into. I also wasn't connecting to the character. I thought the novel was tedious to get through. I would not recommend it.

My god this book was simply awful... Not necessarily 'bad' but just horribly dull and completely lifeless. It was so basic it felt like the author wrote it over the weekend...and not even a long weekend at that. So many things just didn't sit right with me with this book but first I'll outline the plot because that shouldn't take me very long) Basically, the heroine's family was killed by Indians and so was found and raised by carnival folk who put her to work in the tents interpreting peoples dreams for a fee. The heroine hates this position, she feels guilty because she believes she is deceiving people into thinking she has the ability to truly understand their dreams mystically yet all she knows comes from books. But she has precognition abilities in her dreams so I don't know what she's whining about. She's always wanted to leave, to flee the circus and when her employers/ stepfather kidnaps a young Indian boy, she knows enough is enough and steals a horse some food and the young boy and together they set out into the wilderness.

When the boy is stung by a bee and goes into anaphylactic shock, she is beside herself with guilt and worry because she's come to feel a great deal for the boy. Then the boy’s uncle the hero chieftain of the village finds them. He's been searching for his nephew for days, mourning the loss of his sister who dramatically killed herself thinking her boy was dead, and when he finds a white woman with his sick nephew he immediately. thinks she's the one to blame. He takes her back to his village as a prisoner. When the boy recovers and names her as his savior, the hero immediately falls in love with her on the spot. And the heroine immediately falls in love with him and together they go on a dull and lifeless journey exploring their love... Okay, let's begin, shall we? First off, what language are they speaking? A white woman who has been raised by the circus who fears Indians and hasn't contacted any since her parents were married- and an Indian hero who hasn't had a lot of contact with the evil white skins...Yet they could take to one another like it's the most natural thing in the world. Okay.

Secondly, there was zero reason for the hero and heroine to fall in love. Basically, they loved each other because she reminded him of his lost childhood love and he was so damn handsome. It's painful yet humorous at the same time. The whole book was something one could read on autopilot and still get the jest of the plot at the end. Oh, and don't even get me started on how easily the perverted stalker was dealt with (apparently, it's as easy as tossing the guy off a cliff, took about 2 paragraphs) or how the step parents were bad, yet good...but bad. God what a waste of time. Queen of native American romance my firm behind. Just because you shit out 10 books a year doesn't mean they're any good.

Dreams...

They were her stock in trade. Day in and day out, Annamae Jacobsen pretended to interpret other people's nighttime fancies, earning her way on the carnival circuit. But it was a life she hated, one she had not chosen, and a daring escape landed her in the arms of the most exciting man she'd ever known: Chief Cougar of the Blackfoot tribe.

Are What We Make Of Them

Among Cougar's people, Annamae discovered that dreams coudl tell the future, visions were sacred and her own very real abilities made her a true member of the village. As the sun went down and the world of the spirit gained ascendancy, she would reach the stars with the virile mate she'd been destined to love.

I love stories of historical and culture. It was very interesting to learn about the lifestyle of the Dakota Indian. The characters were interesting and I liked the plot. It kept me interested. The romance parts were done tastefully. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
