Bed & Biscuit #2

Wild Times at the Bed & Biscuit (Bed & Biscuit) (Paperback) - Common

Rate this book
The Bed and Biscuit is going wild! Kids will laugh at — and learn from — this new adventure, as Grampa takes in some ailing critters who are anything but tame.

Ever since Grampa Bender opened his doors (and veterinary skills) to a despondent Canada goose, a cranky muskrat, and two tiny but rebellious fox kits, his animal boarding house has been turned upside down. Luckily, Ernest the mini-pig is on hand to marshal the other animals into being good hosts — but since wild things are, well, wild by nature, it has been trickier than he imagined. Plus Ernest is trying to train Sir Walter, the Scottish terrier puppy who is the newest addition to the family. But what if Sir Walter doesn’t want to be told what to do and decides that running wild like a fox sounds like lots of fun?

Great chapter book for children who love animals. The dialogue could be a bit confusing for the younger readers when deciding who is talking. The characters are really cute, and I love that the author includes non-fiction information about the animals at the farm.

2020 Reading Challenge: #31 - read in a day

Lots of mentions of death, kinda off putting for a children’s story. Otherwise I thought it was cute.

This is a great easy reader with lovable animals for main characters. I’m including this in possible independent reads for my 3rd grader.

A charming little story about a smart pig and his blended family of humans and animals who depend on each other.

This book I read for my book report is called " wild times at the bed biscuit." it is within by Joan Carris. This book is about a farm that helps animals if they are sick or hart. In th book the 2 foxes run away and take the dog with them and then grandpa can't find them anymore. As the book talks about different animals there is a goose and when it comes to the farm it has a bow an arrow stuck in its neck so they have to get him better or he will die. As the goose gets better they bring him back to his home (pond) and he finds his mate. I rate this book a 3 out of 5 stars. I did not think it was a really book book bus it was not bad at the same time. I would recommend you reading this if you like animals.

Didn't notice this was a sequel until the end. Perhaps that explains why the characterization was so weak and the beginning was so confusing (who is that again??) Bea liked this book because it was about animals and "pet vet" - her favorite pretend game - taking care of sick/injured animals. I didn't like reading this book to her because I really felt the writing was weak. But then I see that the author teaching writing at Duke so who am I to judge. Hmmm. Didn't work for me but Bea wants to read the 1st in the series. Sigh.

Grandpa Bender agrees to take on some extra boarders at the Bed & Biscuit: a Canada goose with an arrow through his beak, a grouchy muskrat, and two fox kits. Ernest, Grandpa's pig, is already busy trying to train Sir Walter, the newest addition to Grandpa's family. Even with the help of Gabby the mynah bird and Milly the cat, can Ernest watch Sir Walter every minute to keep the frisky puppy out of trouble? Animal lovers will find lots to like about this story.

I had a hard time getting into this, but it's probably because I'm more used to middle school books, rather than talking animal books. It does a nice job of incorporating characteristics of various animals, and the difference between wild and tame ones. The illustrations and animal facts at the end are valuable additions.

It took me a little while to get into this book. I was so confused at first as to who everyone was and then to find out that they are almost all animals. It was a cute book about a country vet who took in wild animals that were injured. The normal pets helped to take care of the animals as well. I think my 7 year-old would like it because she likes animals.

I honestly don't care for this book. I thought that it was poorly written considering that its a book that 5th and 4th graders have to read. I guess one good thing in this book was the middle. I think I liked that because it was the climax. It was also REALLY easy to tell when the climax occurred. If you want a quick read, I recommend thid book.

A great sequel, but will be just as enjoyable to those who are new to the Bed & Biscuit. It is a great early chapter book, and the characters are likable and funny. It should also be a hit with animal lovers, and the author puts in a description of each of the unique animals at the end. Well done.

Cute story of wild animals coming to live with domesticated animals that talk to the wild animals and try to befriend them. This book is a cozy read, something to share with an early elementary student who loves animals.

Summary:
Things get wild at the Bed and Biscuit boarding home as a few wild animals are housed there while their shelter gets renovated. Ernest the pig finds himself extremely busy helping out!

I think it is important to read book one before this one to get a bit more character development.

This was an awesome book. It had a terrible beginning in my opinion. They just kept saying random names and no one knows who is who. A good thing about this book is that it had a really climactic middle.

This book was okay. This is not one of my favorite books.Because the characters were not addressed very well so you had to try to figure out who was who.The main idea was pretty good but I have read better books.
