THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF A MODERN CLASSIC! Loosely based on a teenager's diary from the 1980s found in a gas-station bathroom, Unlovable is the remarkable story of Tammy Pierce, as filtered through
My friend Amy put it best when she said "I feel like I'm reading one of our notebooks from junior high!" It's true. I related to every silly boy crazed scenario and the young, emerging artist drawing style. The story was appropriated from a found diary, and my only complaint is that I wanted to know what happened in some situations and she was already bouncing on to the next big drama. I am going to recommend this to all my non-reader friends in hopes that they will start to love graphic novels as much as I do. Hooray Esther Pearl Watson!
I purchased this on a whim because of the interesting premise and devoured the whole thing in a flash. This series perfectly captures all of the obsessions, exaggerations, awkward moments, and intense emotions that comes with being a teen. I laughed. I squirmed. Long-buried, painful memories of my own childhood floated to the surface. I laughed some more. A unique read - glad I picked it up!
Esther pearl Watson has made it onto my list of top five favorite graphic novelists. Right up there with Alison bechdel. With a beautiful box set that includes glitter details, I am in love forever. Thank you lord for this hilarious gift.
