Caleb Worthington always imagined himself playing college football and marrying a cheerleader, not working fields and isolating himself on his family’s ranch. But when society collapses, dreams do too.

He clings to the only thing left. Family.

As the supply chain crumbles, people soon realize food doesn’t come from stores, and those who live at the source have the advantage. Not everyone wants to work for that asset. Having faced marauders invading the Worthington farm once, Caleb is ready to defend his household and their property again.

Now a new threat looms.

A blackmailer has targeted Caleb, forcing him to make a choice — trust his loved ones with the terrible truth of why his former best friend is dead or risk losing everything to hide it.

But nothing stays buried forever.

I loved the first book in this series, and this second one was also terrific! I liked reading about this version of the apocalypse, and how people are trying to survive in the aftermath.

The main character is Caleb, who is trying to get by and take care of his family. In addition to dealing with all the societal issues, he has another problem. He is being blackmailed, and has to decide whether to come clean about what he did to his family, or meet the blackmailer's demands. It was interesting to see him dealing with this new issue in the midst of everything else.

Caleb is a great character, and I felt like I really got to know him through reading this book. His inner turmoil, his desire to do what is right, and his general personality made him seeem very real.

I highly recommend this book and series! Even though it's the second book, I think it would work as a standalone.

“Honor” is the second book in the Collapse series. From the very first page, the story starts off with a bang. It shoots you forward into the pages, searching for what is going on and why. Just like the first book, this one did not disappoint and was not easy to put down. Within the story are lessons and things that one can relate to; not always being able to trust those you confide in with your deepest secrets, when sinful acts are buried the weight that is carried from them until they are confessed with all truth, and the appearance and behaviors of someone is not always what is in their heart. I love this series and the characters. My favorite character is still Jacob. I wouldn’t mind being taken in by the Worthington family.

This is the second book in this series; I read and loved the first book, but this book could stand alone pretty well. I’ve always been fearful of this type of societal collapse, so I found everything the people do to survive so interesting. Caleb was an interesting character and I really liked the faith aspect; Christianity isn’t in your face, just matter of fact. Some people will strive to be ethical and others take shortcuts and are dishonest and thieving. This book would be of interest to a teen, yet as an adult, I really liked it. It’s very well-written and I like that it’s clean. I can definitely recommend this book and series; I was provided an arc, but these opinions are my own.
