From #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen comes a classic tale of excitement, risk, and romance, as two people make a connection so unexpected and so intimate, it may have consequences for a lifetime. Gorgeous Hollywood stunt double Kendra Michaels is vying for the job of her life—a high-paying, high-risk jump that will clear the debt on her brother’s medical bills. Casey Michaels was a stuntman himself until a job went tragically wrong. Now Kendra is prepared to take the same chance. There’s just one man standing in her way, a man whose irresistible magnetism seduced her in ways she’d never experienced—and never before surrendered to....
Director Joel Damon gets what he wants. And he wants Kendra. But the explosive attraction he feels at the mere sight of her is entirely new to him, and it hasn’t disappeared, not since their one unforgettable night together—and not since Joel discovered she wasn’t the experienced starlet he’d mistaken her for. Now he’s determined to extend that night into many more. But he’ll have to keep Kendra alive to do it, even if it ruins her career. For he has bigger plans in mind for her than she ever imagined.

She's an experienced film stunt woman who knows her way through Hollywood yet does not understand that painkillers mixed with alcohol can get you high? lmao. She needs to lunch with Jacqueline Susan.
“Capture the Rainbow” is the story of Joel and Kendra. Joel, the movie director spots Kendra, the stuntwomen at a movie party- and unknown to him, she’s under the influence of analgesics and alcohol- he sets out to seduce her thinking of her as a loose, aspiring actress. Soon the hymen god speaks for itself, and while he’s shocked but wants to continue their affair as his mistress, she refuses as she needs a job to support her sick brother. The rest of the story is her working as his stuntwomen, him disagreeing, making life difficult and then agreeing, some new surprises and a HEA. I was pleasantly surprised by the supporting characters like Billie (loved her) and occasional nail biting moments like her jumps. Also enjoyed the tender moments between the couple when the H opens up. Overall, a throughly entertaining read. Safe 3.5/5
This is an older style romance written back when it was acceptable for a virginal woman to hop into bed with a bossy unlikable alpha man she's just met because he looks sexy.
Don't ask me for names, you don't need 'em. I read this on audio and they have already escaped my mind. He's an arrogant movie producer. She works as a stunt woman. From the moment he sees her he decides she's a starlet who will slut herself out to get a plum role. He always gets what he wants and he wants her bad . . .
She's taken a pain killer and had some champagne so I suppose you could say her thinking was slightly impaired but before they barely have a conversation (he basically bosses her around and insults her) she is driving off with him to his "castle" where she gives him her virginity.
Sorry, but she wasn't impaired enough for me to buy into this and if she was it makes him an even bigger creep.
I finished this book even though it did nothing but annoy me. The heroine keeps her "big secret" (which isn't really) from the "hero" in an attempt to keep her independence. I thought this was a silly plot ploy to keep them apart for a few more pages. It didn't help that we never even get to meet the heroine's brother who is a big part of her motivation for the things she does.
And did I mention all of the talking during the sex scenes? If the author isn't waxing poetic and moving mountains & describing rainbows, she has the hero spouting sickeningly sweet nothings to the heroine about her glorious bod. At one point she tells him to shut up and get to work and I had to laugh because I was thinking the same thing.
I could complain about this book for hours but I have to get some work done. If I had it to do over again, I'd read something else.

Stuntwoman Kendra Michaels is hoping for a future high paying but also high risk job, which would also help in her brothers medical bills due to a accident that he had on a stunt job. When she meets Director Joel Damon, there is sparks that fly between them at a party, and they spend a sensational night together, but then later anger fireworks happen, and Kendra leaved Joel and steals his car since he has no phone for her to call a cab, in a isolated area. So after Kendra finished her current job, she goes over to Sedikhan, to work on a movie with Joel as Director, and sparks fly between them once more. Joel after realizing how much Kendra means to him doesn't want Kendra to do the stunt work on the current job, since its one of the more high risk stunts, which could kill you if you don't do it right, and then goes out to prove to Kendra who is boss, but she is alot tougher than she looks, and sooner or later Joel and Kendra will have to admit their powerful feelings for one another. I just have loved this book and I love listening to this book, there is such a great narrator and I have just loved reading each and every one of the Sedikhan series. Capture the Rainbow is one of those powerfully romantic but short love stories that will tug at every emotion as you read this story. Kendra is a stuntwoman and has to pay for her brothers bills when he was in a accident, and so she has to take the most high risk since they are the high paying jobs as well. And then we have this delectable romance going on between Kendra and Joel that will make you laugh and cry, and some very intense moments that will have you at the edge of your seat, so this is one of my favorite romances to read especially by this author, and its going for a 5 rating on my scale, but I could just re read this over and over and never be bored.
If your bored to tears and Have nothing else to read. This is a good book to pass the time. But once done reading. You might have rather been bored. This book isnt really about anything intresting. A strange love story. A stunt woman falls for this rich guy whom is completly controlling and spoiled. The end. There I saved you time.
Stuntwoman Kendra Micheals is needing jobs that are high paying. She is paying the medical bills of her stuntman brother after his near fatal accident. He will never be able to work as a stuntman again. Kendra is hired to stunt on a movie being directed by Joel Damon. There are many dangerous stunts she hopes to be selected to preform. At a party for the movie, Joel is captivated by Kendra and whisks her off to “have her”. This is a romance story, where two stubborn people cannot consistently communicate with each other. The beginning of the story with rainbow house and the powerful feelings they have for each other that first night was off putting for me. It felt very stilted and selfish on both of their parts. Not my favorite book of the year!
This so far has been my least favorite Iris Johansen Novel. The book seems to be a book about sex. Kendra Michaels is a Hollywood Stunt double who loves her work but must also do stunts in order to pay her brothers medical bills. She proceeds to take on dangerous stunts because they pay more. After a one night stand she finds out that the one night stand is gong to be her future employer. From the very first night Joel Damon knows that he loves her and does everything he can to keep her safe.
I find this book a little too much for me. The entire book seemed to be about how many times the main characters could sleep together. That mixed with the selfishly independant Kendra just drove me nuts. Her desire to do what she wanted and not caring about anyone but herself puts herself in danger and her unborn child. She was given multiple chances to have everything she wanted with no strings attached and she still chose to do the one stunt that could cause her own death and hurt those she loved.

Doritos. Nachos. Cheetos. Pizza. 80's hairstyles. Pick up lines. This book. All things that are cheesy! I may have actually thrown up in my mouth repeatedly while reading this book. I did finish it though, hence the two stars. As a side note, if my husband ever called me his "rainbow lady", I would punch him in the throat.
Points against: 1. Rich and incredibly successful director who has starlets constantly throwing themselves at him sees a moderately pretty girl and instantly falls in love. 2. She's a stunt woman from a family of stunt people. She's in debt because her brother broke his back in a car jump stunt gone wrong. 3. She's injured in a stunt so is taking pain-killers and drinking champagne. She's never taken painkillers before? She's never read a warning label? 4. So while loopy on drugs she hooks up with super rich director and he thinks she's a starlet climbing into his bed to get a part. 5. Of course she's a 29 year old virgin with no idea of how birth control works. 6. Through miscommunication and stubbornness they are kept apart for most of the book. 7. She's an idiot. 8. He's unrealistic. 9. The whole situation is ridiculous. 10. The supporting characters are even worse.
I'm told Iris Johansen writes a taunt thriller. I think if I ever read another of her books, I'll try one of those and steer well clear of anything like this.

Wonderful to reread this series many years later. This story is probably my second favourite in the series. I do not want to even admit to how long ago I originally owned and read the paperbacks for this series. Found the eBooks when browsing my library, so decided to have a nostalgic reading trip. I still distinctly remember TOUCH THE HORIZON with Billie and David, as it was the first book I read in this series and I reread it quite a few times. Even years later it still remains a happy memory. I was pleasantly surprised to find more have been written. I had reviewed some of these but those reviews are missing. Showing its age but still an enjoyable and very entertaining read, with likeable characters and a nice ride along storyline. I do enjoy this story as Kendra really is an interesting and strong individual. She stands up to Joel when he acts like a spoilt child who wants another’s toy. Joel, due to his job/position has never lacked for female attention and is used to having what he wants, when he wants it. Blame his upbringing or that thinking. This is not the only side of him but it takes a bit too long for us to see that. He is a bit of a tyrant on and off but he really does want a HEA and he does have provocation for his actions due to one seriously stubborn woman in Kendra. And then you hear about his atrocious and despicable parents, you cannot help but feel for him. The older age thing shows itself again as in a previous book. Joel the hero doesn’t use a condom, believing it’s the woman’s job to be on the pill. What is so lovely is that we get to meet the adorable Billie in this story.
Stunt-woman Kendra Michaels, unwittingly has 2 glasses of champagne after taking a painkiller for a back injury, and ends up in a one night stand with the director of the movie she has contracted for. He is ready to make her his mistress, but she sets him straight. She pays her own way. She needs her independence to get jobs and pay of her brother's medical bills. His over-protectiveness and her independence are the conflict in the novel. There are several great side characters. I good series romance representative of those published in the 80s.
On the order of a Harlequin, i found the dialogue, storyline, and characters hum-drum and almost didn't finish it. I skimmed through the myriad of sex scenes trying to find some meat in this story, but failed to do so. I was disappointed, although this must be an early work, so not what I have come to expect from Ms. Johansen.
This book was ok...it's close to what some might call a "trashy" romance. I did somewhat enjoy the story line but it was a little disjointed and the focus was on the intense relationship between the main characters.
I enjoyed the characters and the love story that goes along with them . The locations were interesting and the movie making was interesting. Looking forward to reading more of this series
This is one of Iris Johansen's earlier books (1984). It's not like her later action-packed books but still a very nice read.
Hollywood stuntwoman Kendra Michaels is up for the stunt role of her life. Director Joel Damon took one look at her and was totally smitten. Love at first sight.
Set up was great...a story about a courageous and caring woman doing an unusual job. This story, however was also filled with repetitive nothings that never went anywhere. The only fine and fabulous moment in the story was the rescue of Yusuf by Billie. I would have loved to find out more about both of these quirky characters. The most anticipated moment of the story...the pivotal moment, built up to from chapter one....the amazing, magnificent stunt that was to be pulled off by the heroine, was never actually described! My jaw hit the ground and you could have smacked me down with a feather...finally the moment I was still reading this book to experience was taking place against all odds..... Page 195 (Kindle Edition) I Quote:
“She heard the crackle from the mobile phone-Ron from the helicopter with the signal for her to start. She opened her eyes and turned on the ignition of the Jeep before reaching with a steady hand for the receiver to tell him she was ready.
The film sequence of the Jeep soaring over the canyon won the camera crew an Oscar nomination.......”
Wait, what???? No no no! I kid you not. Her experience of actually doing the stunt that the entire agonizing plot focuses around is actually missing!
Blah blah blah blah.
The end.
