Ooh, more touchy, feely psuedo-junk.
Lots of feel good stories backed up with nothing. Just more recycled pealeist clap-trap.
Ooh, with a dash of bigotry added in.

Steve Rizzo is a professional standup comedian turned attitude adjuster. He travels the world sharing his message of "shifting" your thoughts and your life.

People might resist the word "change", but the word "shift" is much easier to grasp...especially when it is used in a humorous and playful way. Shifting your attitude doesn't seem as difficult as changing your attitude.

This book is for both personal relationships and business interactions. The author's mission in life is to show people how to be happy and successful in business and in life, regardless of their circumstances. Mr. Rizzo shares the following messages in this book;

*If you shift your focus and way of thinking, you can turn challenging times into opportunities.
*If you are grateful for what you have, rather than fixating on what you don't have, you can be happier then you ever imagined.
*If you unleash the power of your Humor Being on a daily basis, you will come to know that not even fear can stand against the power of laughter.

This book is both serious and funny. Mr. Rizzo is a true comedian and delivers his message with an unforgettable twist of humor. This is one of my favorite passages;
"So are you ready to get your shift together? If not, then you better shift and get off the pot, because when shift happens, your life changes. At this point you've probably had enough of my shift. I guess you can say I'm full of shift. I apologize; sometimes I'm just a real shifthead. Oh shift, I did it again! Seriously folks: may the shift be with you".

I can honestly say that this is one of the best motivational, inspirational, life-changing books that I have ever read. The combination of serious advice and humor made this an unforgettable reading experience.

The author convinced me that it is possible to make serious shifts in my life. The idea of being a "Humor Being" is priceless and emphasizes the fact that laughter is often the best medicine for physical and emotional problems.

It is obvious that the author has done a great deal of research on the mind/body connection. He gives many examples from his own life that illustrate the point that you can change your life if you change the way you think.

I don't care how many self-help books you have read in the past, this book will give you a real kick in the pants! You will find that happiness is possible RIGHT NOW if you are willing to shift your thinking and get your shift together. Highly recommended!

This book is written by a former comedian who has discovered his calling as a motivational speaker. It's made up of four parts ...

* The author's Shift from a comedian to the Attitude Adjuster
* Shifting into a happier mindset - enjoying the process and making it a habit
* May the Shift be with you - what you think is what you get, using humor and what it means to be positive
* The Shift continues - dealing with the Big Mouth yapping in your head and committing to the Shift

Try to see the positive in a negative experience ... you choose how you respond to something.

The present is the only place where your life can happen ... not the past and not the future. The present is also the only place where happiness and peace can be experienced. The past and future is where many people choose to live their lives.

I like reading books like this ... it's always good to have a reminder to maintain a positive attitude. I liked the messages in the book and the real life examples (like Christopher Reeve). I found that the joking style of writing kind of fell flat with me ... maybe it works better when you are talking with him face-to-face or in one of his sessions.

Steve Rizzo is a successful stand up comedian who decided to try something else in life. He is now a successful corporate speaker, using his humor skills to teach people how to get through tough times. His new book does the same. Filled with lots of humor (much of it groan inducing), Steve shows that just having the ability to laugh at ourselves and our situations can make a huge difference.

The book's premise is to shift our mindset. Whether we find ourselves in a life-altering situation or a long line at the grocery store, how we react to it can make a huge difference to us and to those around us. There are plenty of stories in the book to back up the points being made. Some involve famous people Steve has met, like Rodney Dangerfield and Eddie Murphy. Perhaps the most inspirational person is Steve's brother Michael, who suffered a combat injury in Vietnam.

It's a very positive read and many of the chapters have action steps. It's all very encouraging and if you find yourself stuck in a rut with negative thoughts, you might want to pick up a copy of this book.

I listened to the audiobook I downloaded from Audible.

My massage therapist recommended "SHIFT" after I had come back from exploring Australia and South Korea and was now getting rejection email after rejection email for jobs I had been applying for. I'd been contemplating a switch in careers and noodling back and forth over whether all these rejections were signs I should take the leap I'd been avoiding all my life.

Rizzo's "SHIFT" helped me put my fear on a mental projection screen in front of me and made me examine why I was fearful of that leap. There was some passages in the book that made me a little teary and there was one moment in particular made me bawl silently during my commute home from work—it hit home exactly.

The only negative (which is actually a good thing but I can see others being annoyed with it) is that Rizzo repeats himself to try to laugh and think positively in every situation. That can be redundant but I see (albeit positively) as positive reinforcement, which is something we don't get enough or do enough.

There are many points in the book that I highlighted and am looking forward to going over. However, I felt that some of the 'funny' things seemed a bit forced; or just maybe I am not a big fan of comedy! However, I really do think Steve Rizzo made good points towards Shifting your Attitude and getting a better life because of the Shift.

This book was read as part of a group of resources used to put together a presentation on managing life changes. it's easy to read, but doesn't offer new insights into coping with life changes and stressors. However, it does use real life examples and humor to move the along and that makes it more readable than others. If you're just starting out I'd recommend it as an introductory text, but not if you've done studying of this subject as it won't add to your knowledge.

A self-help / inspirational book about shifting your attitude through the use of humor. Rizzo was a successful stand-up comedian when he left that career to become a motivational speaker. He now presents workshops on enjoying life and using mindfulness / staying in the present moment to adjust (that is, 'shift') your attitude. It did not seem to be much new in the way of content but the presentation was refreshing. All in all, pretty decent inspirational book.

Love the idea of this book and the idea of comedy and an enlightening message at the same time; however, this book is such a drag and is so repetitive that I cannot seem to muster the desire to even finish it. Sorry, Steve, it's not working for me.

Not my thing, this is way too boring to discuss about relative experiences and the joke aside as well. So 3/5
