The Making of a Leader is a practical book for anyone who desires to grow in church leadership. Dr. J. Robert Clinton provides a compelling framework for understanding how God develops leaders over a lifetime. Through biblical principles and real-life examples, he highlights the different stages of leadership growth and the importance of recognizing God’s shaping work in one’s journey. This book is both encouraging and challenging, offering wisdom that helps leaders discern their calling and maximize their impact. A must-read for those serious about growing in their leadership and serving the church effectively!

This is a fantastic and foundational book toward developing mature leaders who develop maximum fruitfulness in their life.

The challenge with this book is the level of detail to work through, but in my opinion, it is all highly accurate.

Clinton developed general seasons or “phases” that every leader has to progress through toward maturity.

Each phase has tests associated white them that must be passed before moving to the next phase. Specific boundary conditions exist between the phases and if a person can recognize and observe these factors, their growth can resume and even accelerate because the hand of God can be recognized.

It’s actually really good for the first half. I like how it ties in leadership to scripture, but nearing the end it stops doing that and just feels like endless bullet points.
