Jan Coffey, Nik James, and May McGoldrick are pen names for USA Today bestselling authors Nikoo Kafi and Jim McGoldrick. Together, they have crafted over fifty fast-paced, conflict-filled historical, contemporary, and Western novels, and two works of nonfiction.

Nikoo’s education and training was in engineering. She worked in robotics and submarine shipbuilding. Before earning a PhD in sixteenth-century Scottish and English literature, Jim pursued a hundred and one jobs, including a decade in submarine construction.

Storytellers at heart, Nikoo and Jim were always searching for careers that gave them time for both family and writing. Then, after thirteen years of marriage, they recognized each other’s creative strengths. Nikoo is all about characters and feeling. Jim is about action and sense of place. Their first attempt in writing fiction together produced their award-winning novel, The Thistle and the Rose. Since then, their stories have touched the hearts and minds of millions of readers all over the world. Their work has been translated into over a dozen languages and counting.

Nikoo and Jim are four-time Rita Finalists and the winners of numerous awards for their writing, including the Daphne DeMaurier Award for Excellence, the Romantic Times Magazine Reviewers’ Choice Award, three NJRW Golden Leaf Awards, two Holt Medallions, and the Connecticut Press Club Award for Best Fiction.

The authors make their home in California.

3.5 stars. Nice suspense novel with a real psycho in it. Nice little romance too.

OK. If I had known these authors wrote what they call 'romantic suspense' I might not have picked this book up to read. The actual story was good-lots of suspense about a psycho who has developed a program to take control of cars and sow chaos. Not a necessarily new idea, but interesting. Some of the romantic parts were fine and fit that part of the story. But there were quite a few that were not needed and not only seemed out of place, but unrealistic for the situation. I also couldn't believe especially towards the end that Emily and Ben didn't consider every scenario that this guy would find to affect them. I'm no detective, but it just seemed they became content with their 'solutions' when they should have been much more concerned and prepared. Underestimating Lyden in the story was understandable, but gave the impression (especially since the FBI, etc were involved) with being slightly dimwitted. Of course, it's easy to think we would all do something different in these situations, I just wish the authors had decided to also.

Not Sci-Fi.

I’m not certain how I came to read this book since I primarily read science fiction. And, while this book is an interesting and well told technological thriller, it is not sci-fi. But I did enjoy the story and the character development. A bit of death and violence but no gore or excessive perversion. I give this a “more” rating and will be looking into the submarine thriller “Silent Waters”…

Mystery/romance/stalker. Good concept on a stalker who buries a trojan virus in car circuits that allows him to take control of almost any car/bus/trunk on the road. He is infatuated with a computer expert blogger and starts stalking her. Of course there is a handsome hero to help but she is strong and is the person figuring things out. Enjoyable book, not heavy reading. I'll look for other books by this author.

Very, very good novel!!

From back cover:

"A Porsche careens out of control in a crowded parking lot. A brand-new SUV smashes through a dealership's plate-glass window. A Mercedes races wildly down a pier before diving off the end onto the deck of a yacht. Then two more wrecks. Witnesses report the vehicles had "a mind of their own" before each accident. Five in a row can't be a coincidence.

Computer guru Emily Doyle has become the single-minded focus of a hacker determined to capture her attention. She recognizes the technology that is being used to gain control of the vehicles - and in some way, she is connected to each of the victims. Ben Colter is the investigator called in by the automakers to find the link. As the casualties mount, Emily and Ben must unravel the puzzle of the seemingly random attacks, as a twisted mind moves from virtual reality to international terrorism."
