Martha Finley was a teacher and author of numerous works, the most well known being the 28 volume Elsie Dinsmore series which was published over a span of 38 years. Finley wrote many of her books under the pseudonym Martha Farquharson.
Violet Travilla is by far my favorite 'A Life of Faith' heroine. I guess that might be because I can relate to her struggles growing up more than the others, or that I think that I'm more like her than the other heroines, Elsie and Millie. But, either way, I love Violet-even more so than Elsie Dinsmore, Violet's mother, who seems to be the one everyone really likes.
Violet's Perplexing Puzzles, the 5th book in the ALOF Violet Travilla series, is my favorite in the entire series. Filled with fun, drama, and suspense, it's really quite riveting. Violet also falls in love in this book…with someone she never thought she would-someone who really irked her the first day she met him…a certain professor…(wink, wink)…which is a roller coaster ride throughout the book, making it all the more fun.
Violet's adventures are so fantastic! I love reading about all the family members and friends along the way. The problems between Zoe Love and Vi's brother Eddie are so peculiar you can't help but smile at the way they get mad at each other. Especially the time in this book when Ed gives Zoe a bouquet of flowers to make up for something terribly rude he said! Zoe so doesn't understand why she and Ed are like oil and water…making for some interesting times! Those two… ;P Another add to the book is that the nearby hotel owner, Mr. Clinch, seeks to get revenge! The whole story throughout this book is really quite fascinating. I love the way God is so intertwined into the story. I really love this book so much I don't know how many times I've re-read my favorite parts!
The A Life of Faith series is fantastic, educational, and God-honoring-books that every girl that likes the Victorian Era should read! Wonderful, fantastic, humorous, and intriguing. Read this series! It's thanks to the Violet series that I got so interested in the 1800's. I recommend them!
This was a great read. I especially loved reading about Violet and getting to experience the difference between her thought process and that of her mothers story which I know so well. I appreciate that there is so much difference.
