Caleb expected an easy hike escorting a group of bickering cubs up the mountain as Caleb tried to show his pack he ready for more responsibility. After an attack by a rival shifter packer, Caleb and his group are saved by Asher, a sexy lone alpha wolf who calls the mountain his home. Caleb is grateful until the man refuses to let Caleb go.
Asher takes what is his…
Asher’s life is survival of the fittest, so when he senses his mate stepping onto his mountain, Asher rushes to claim him. Finding him and protecting him is easy enough. It is convincing the younger shifter he is his that is a challenge. Asher can be patient though, especially if the end goal is showing Caleb how good their lives could be together.
The forest may be Asher’s home, but it is also a dangerous place and if Asher wants his life with his mate, he’ll have to save him first.
His to Save is the second book in The Den series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone. His to Save contains hilarious moments that could cause you to laugh at inappropriate times as well as sexy moments that will steam up your sunglasses. The Den is the second series in the Wolf’s Mate Universe .

Hmmm.... This story had great characters, but I feel that they weren't given a chance to shine.
I'll start with the beginning. When I opened the book on my e-reader, its length worried me somewhat. As I have usually experienced, short length books rarely do great. And this author has set pretty high expectations for me. I've loved every book by Kiki that came before this one, and I am sure I'll love the ones that come next. But sadly, this one was a miss for me.
Since the type of character Caleb is one which I've not encountered before, I think, in M/M, I had a bit of a struggle liking him in the beginning. He was too childish for me to take his pouting and bratty attitude in a good way. But thankfully, Asher was there to make me forget about it everytime Caleb was being his irritating self. And I quite liked Asher's character.
But the reason why I feel disappointed is that there was less relationship development and more plot progression. Yes, I know the coyotes were to play a big role, and I loved the wild wolves. I also loved the role The Den played. But I didn't love the fact that it was all done at the expense of my getting a good romance development. I wanted to read more about Caleb and Asher, but they were both focussed on the events more than themselves. Apart from getting to see how they get together, there was very little to read about them other than talking about coyotes, pregnancy, and then more coyotes.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for the next book. The baffled Glenn has my ears perked up, waiting to hear about when his story will be out. But I really wish the author would take time to write a bigger story, and not this hurried dash that was this book. All the best, Kiki. :) Can't wait for the next one.
Cute MM shifter mate book. I absolutely loved Asher. He was so perfect and took care of his baby. But Caleb was a whiny brat. I could just picture him stomping his foot and crossing his arms a couple of times.
I love this series!! Before you read His Baby to Save, I would suggest that you read the Wolf's Mate series and the Den book 1. You don't have to, but you get a better understand of the other characters that make guest appearance in this book.
I like that unlike other shifter stories, this wasn't an insta-love story. I instantly feel in love with Asher (lone wolf alpha). He is sweet and protective - as any good alpha should be. Caleb was an innocent, but independent shifter wolf.
This was a sweet, steamy book and I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Asher seemed to be a bit of a contradiction too me. He had been living alone for seventeen years, and had even forgotten his name and how to speak (in the beginning), yet he understood all of Caleb's slang, knew too much about shifter sexuality (considering that he left civilization at 15), and was familiar, though not comfortable, with modern technology. I would have expected him to be more out of touch with the modern world than he was.
Also, do none of these people have cell phones? Yes they were in the forest, on a mountain, but we're they just out of range of any towers? Is HAM radio not an option for the homestead? Satellite phone? It just seems to me that being so far out of touch with a known threat in the area seems to just be foolish.
Beyond that, I absolutely loved Caleb and Asher. Caleb's insistence that he is capable and independent clashed beautifully with Asher's determination to protect and provide for his mate.
I stumbled into this series and it looks like it is a spin-off from a previous series as there are established couples throughout. I still enjoyed this book and the 1st one in the series but I'm going to stop now and go back and find the beginning series before finishing this one.
This series is so good. I'm so glad I picked them to read. They will definitely stay in my library to read over and over again.
In this book we meet Caleb, a young pup so full of life and Asher, an older wolf who has been on his own for quite a while. It would be hard to pick a favorite character in this one if I had to. I adore Caleb and Asher both in different ways. Caleb is so young and innocent and you can't help but want to protect him with everything you are. Which is what happens. Caleb ended up hurt by coyotes and almost died while he was protecting his younger pack mates. If it wasn't for lone wolf Asher, Caleb would have died. And Asher would do anything for the young man he smelled as his mate. Asher knows he has to do everything he can to keep his little mate alive and well and to make Caleb realize that he belongs to him.
Caleb is such a fiesty little wolf. He's recognized Asher as his mate but isn't quite sure that's what he is feeling. Being hurt has left him confused but when he figures it out, he can't believe it. He often hides his insecurities behind a little smart mouth and being petulant. The truth is he doesn't quite know what to do. He's innocent and pure and it's so adorable because he gets so flustered and shy. He wants to feel valuable to Asher. What he doesn't realize and what Asher is trying to get through his head is that he is valuable just the way he is. Asher knows Caleb is a gift to him and he intends to treasure him every way possible.
Asher's character is so different. Asher left his pack at a young age and has been one his own in the wild living as a wolf for some time. He's even had a hard time at first just trying to speak. When he shifts to being human it is very rare. So when he has to take care of Caleb, at first it is hard for him. Being alone in the wild for so long has made him gruff but seeing him care for Caleb is so endearing. He is so enamored of Caleb and longs to make him his. Both Asher and Caleb are very new to what they are going through and it's so beautiful to see them learn each other and trust when trust is so very hard. They both have to learn to compromise for their relationship and it is sweet to watch.
I want to recommend this book and this series to any and all who love love stories. These books have made me laugh, cry, and just be all around happy.
Good book. Good characters. The story and plot flowed nicely. I enjoyed reading about Caleb (a 2o-something wolf shifter) and Asher (a much older wolf shifter). Caleb is part of the Den pack and we saw a little bit of him in the previous book(s). He takes a couple of shifter teens up into the mountains to camp and to teach the teens some tracking and minor survival skills. Things go wrong when a bear comes sniffing around and then a couple coyote shifters looking to harass the small group. Asher has lived up on the mountain since he was 15 after he was forced to end the lives of his home pack because of their evil ways. He considers the mountain his and lives in his wolf form almost all the time. He scents Caleb and goes looking for him, knowing they are mates. Their courtship was cute and nice to read about. However somethings were just a tad annoying. And Anyways enough ranting about such a minor thing in this book. As always, I loved seeing the rest of the pack. I wish there had been a little more interaction. But this book, along with many of Kiki's books, is a definite re-read for me.
Yay! Caleb's story! I was hoping he would be next, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I loved his story, and the journey he took with Asher. Asher was a little gruff, it took me a while to warm up to him, but I grew to love his alpha-ness and the way he was determined to provide and take care of Caleb while he healed.
I enjoyed the romance and also the action going on, and I loved the wolves that Asher had saved that lived with them at their homestead, as Caleb called it. At first, I was worried it would come off as a bit Stockholm Syndrome-like with Caleb being "forced" to stay in the woods with Asher, but I'm glad things happened as they did and they were able to find a compromise in being with Caleb's pack at the Den and also their homestead.
This was a sweet story, some steamy moments as well, it helped move the overall plot along, and I really loved these two. Also I enjoyed seeing some of the other characters and I look forward to whoever's story is next! This time I couldn't tell, but I can't wait for the next book from Kiki!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so good. I loved the opening with Caleb and the kids. I fell in love with him in those first few chapters. He was strong and funny and protective of the kids. I wasn't sure Asher could live up to what I wanted for him. But Asher....oh that beautiful man. I admit that a couple of times I was weirded out by him living on the mountain for so long by himself but as much as that struck me as strange, it was also one of the things that I loved most about him. The way he had built everything from nothing, the way that he lived off the land and didn't take more than he needed....he was in tune with the earth and lived in harmony with it, even when caring for Caleb's injuries. He was quite the hero.
I really loved watching them get to know each other. The slow build to mating was nice. As much as I love the instant bonding and hot sex, there's something to be said for the way Asher held back until Caleb was ready. It was sweet. Coupled with the little touches of kinky banter between them, I was a goner for these two. I could have read another 200 pages of them.
Wow, Kiki has done it again. I’m so glad Caleb got his happily ever after, it may not of been what he originally imagined for himself but in the end they were perfect for each other. Man, Asher was a complete cave man to start with but that probably has something to do with being by himself and being in his wolf form for over 2 years. I loved the connection between Caleb and Asher, Asher is domineering which freaked Caleb out to start with waking in a rustic cabin with a mountain man tending to his wounds but sniffing him which was more animal than man then he worried about the kids in his care but Asher told Caleb that they’re save and were picked up by a ranger and that Caleb can’t leave because they’re mates, Caleb and Asher slowly get to know each other and each time Asher praises Caleb he lights up. Asher doesn’t want Caleb to leave and is annoyed each time Caleb mentions his pack will be worried about him as Asher’s pack was horrible and the reason that he went to the mountain in the first place, as his pack trained the kids like soldiers and then they got into stealing random kids for a sex trafficking ring and then moving onto kids from their own pack so Asher ended up doing what he was trained for and set the kids free and then killed every adult that helped kidnap the kids.
Asher was worried what Caleb would think of him when he heard but Caleb told him that he had to do what he thought was the best option. I loved how Caleb and Brady, who Asher used to see when he needed company became kind of weird friends once Caleb over came his jealousy, Asher didn’t know how he felt about it. I’m glad that even though Asher didn’t need nor want a pack after what he’d been through he went to the Den without a second thought when Caleb started getting sick which was bad since he was pregnant, he did what he had to do to make sure his mate and babies were well, safe and happy. I loved how Asher finally found a pack that had his back. I’m looking forward to reading Brady’s book as he seemed like a lovely caring man. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
This review is for an ARC provided by the author. I wish I could say I liked his one more than the first, but I didn't. I loved Caleb in the first bit of the story. He felt like a normal shifter with a really good heart. You see that in how he jokes with the cubs and tries to protect them on their hike through the woods as a team building/ bonding adventure. It's when he meets Asher that I start to really not like how the characters are developing and interacting.
Asher is a mysterious mountain man who has a chip on his shoulder about his old pack. When Caleb and the cubs are attacked, Asher and his non-shifter wolves come to their aide, a little on the late side as Caleb gets really injured. Obviously they are mates as hinted by the blurb, but it instantly becomes one of those insta-love kind of stories. Asher is your typical alpha male shifter, but what gets me is how Caleb as a man, a shifter, and a male shifter all but crumbles. He turns into this weak character as if he has no will of his own and most of his thoughts and actions are simply a reflex of their being mates. They don't show any kind of solid relationship development on an emotional level. They simply "are" in a way that I've seen in a lot of shifter stories. That made this simply another mpreg shfiter story to me and I'm disappointed in the lack of growth in characters both individually and emotionally.
The story trails off with the whole coyote v. wolf conflict, but it's not enough. For as long as this story is I felt that it was more of a middle story because whatever was going on with the characters from book one only bled over because the coys were out for revenge. Don't get me wrong, the sex is steamy, but it lacks that primal, possessive passion that I like in my shifter stories (i.e. Axel's pup - it being a BDSM and a different take on shifter stories notwithstanding). I can see myself maybe reading a book three, but I hope it's infinitely better than what I read in this.
His Baby To Save is book two in Kiki Burrelli’s The Den series. We are focusing on Caleb and a new guy, Archer. I saw a bit of Caleb in book one so I was somewhat familiar with him. I hoped he found the happiness that he so much wanted. Though we never really heard from him in that book, you could just tell. It was some good foreshadowing from the author.
Archer is an enigma at first. We don’t know his story or why he does what he does or thinks how he does. We get it’s been a long time since he really talked to many humans or anyone for that matter. But the why sort of eats at you for a bit.
In a shifter story, it’s one of the only times two things work for me. Insta-love and strong possession. When I say strong possession I mean when a character basically tells their partner they can or can’t do something. Basically, he’s almost part parent. Only in shifter books have I ever really understood it and it’s because of the animal element.
Asher doesn’t want Caleb to ever leave the mountain. He wants him to stay with him forever and that’s just that. Now, Caleb isn’t at all a pushover. He gives as good as he gets with Asher and that was nice to see. He wasn’t blind to how things work. It’s good Caleb is a shifter; I don’t know this would have worked as well if he’d been human.
I liked this story. It was entertaining and the sex was super-hot. I didn’t feel like Caleb and Asher had bad chemistry and I loved the wild wolves. There was even good action with the wolves and the coyotes. Something, however, felt amiss. I think because there wasn’t real closure with the coyotes and I think that’s maybe because this is an ongoing storyline. Therefore, I won’t pass judgment on that and will read the next book in this series to see if things start to come full circle.
This is the second book in The Den Series. What an sensational book the writing was amazing. The characters were well developed and thought out. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. Asher and Caleb are the MC’s of this book and mates. There was humor, wolves, shifters, a legend, mates, nasty coyotes, a mountain and so much more in this book. Here is a quote from the book, “A twig snapped and Asher stepped between Caleb and the noise, snarling at the tiny bunny that popped out of the trees, probably too small to notice the predators looming further up the path. “Thank you for saving me from the witty bitty bunny,” Caleb said. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
Omg!! Ok first off I love this series so I knew I'd like the story. This one though is the best one yet. There was the mated pair and excitement that we expect. I knew Asher would be a rough around the edges alpha. But to not only have him be so amazing he's legendary and yet be thoughtful and mature enough to embrace Caleb's Pack as well as be a great dad was the perfect touch. It's those kind of details that make Kiki Burrelli such an extraordinary author. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and am leaving an honest review. I have to say that Kiki Burrelli is the queen of putting in a little clue that can be easily overlooked and yet when that door is opened you wonder how you didn't pick up on it. That is the key to a great story teller.
This is a mm mpreg gritty modern romance, the second book in “the Den” series which should be read in order after the “Wolf’s mate” series as they are interconnected. This book follows Caleb as he meets the wild Asher, his mate when Caleb and a group of young wolves are out making trails for the pack & are ambushed. Caleb’s injuries keep him from home but will he be able to tame Asher who is more wolf than man? It was a slow burn tale for mpreg but definitely gritty and world-weary. Kiki has written a great world with good characters but the “mine” aspect wares down after reading so many of these in a row. I wanted Caleb to have more fire like Pippen. It’s still a good story though!
Oh this story has twist and turns. Just going by the blurb I wasn't sure what to expect. I loved this because the story was not predictable, at least for me, I kept thinking but where will they live. This is worked out, not sure why it was my main concern. Anyway the pace is quick, there is action, a few laughs, and some new characters introduced. Then you get an update on a few loved past characters. There is a story arc that continues and appears it will keep going so good news more books to come. All in all it is an enjoyable read. You don't have to have read the Wolf's Mate series but it will help.I would recommend you have read His Baby to Protect.
My fondness for soulmate/true mate romance was definitely somewhat appeased by this story, and it being m/m shifter is a bonus. The writing's of a fairly good standard, the build-up between the characters and the (slightly) possessive alpha behaviour was appreciated; I'm not fussed either way for mpreg but I could've done without the 'magic come'. *rolls eyes*
If you're interested in any (or indeed all) of these tropes and have a few hours to spare then I don't think this will go amiss. It was good enough to spend some time with, but I won't be rereading and I'm not particularly interested in any of the others in this series.
I love a little trapped-in-a-cabin story and also the over-protective alpha story so this really did it for me. I liked it even better than the first in the series and didn't feel that we had to know the plethora of characters from the author's previous books (since it's been a while since I read those) to enjoy this one. Asher was a great character, gruff but sweet. Caleb was a little immature and bratty but it contributed to their dynamic so I was willing to overlook that. I look forward to more in the series.
Shift in scenery and personality for this Omegaverse setting
This Omegaverse/mpreg setting is one of my guilty pleasures, having read the five books of the previous series before starting The Den. On a positive note, the mountain was an interesting change in setting, with certain aspects of Asher’s existence a nice diversion from previous personalities. However, Caleb came across to me as much more of a brat than the previous mpreg mates, hence this entry isn’t my favorite.
Every book in this series is just reminding me of how amazing Pippen (the petite, stoic, softspoken, knive throwing, head chef) is, and making want to go back to the Wolf's Mate series and reread the whole thing to get his and his pack's story again. Frannie too, she is amazing.
this book this is about Asher (a lone borderline feral wolf shifter that lives in mountains with 3 loyal actual wolves that are SO adorable) and Caleb (park of Pippens expanded pack), and they're pretty cool.
But like.... PIPPEN. And he uses his knive throwing skills in this one. Bravo.
I really liked Caleb and Asher. They meet when Caleb is chaperoning a bunch of moody teenagers on a wilderness trip. I liked Caleb because he was sweet and the most relatable. I liked Asher because he was mysterious. He was a real mountain man. They were good for each other. True mates. I love them. I loved the dialogue. This series just keeps getting better and better.
the first half of this book, all i could think was this is a nice change of pace from the original series and this spinoff. I've been binge reading them. Once Caleb and Asher get 'going', they are hot af together *gah*. Definitely worth reading and I enjoyed Pippen's cameo- shining like the warrior he is. Lots of laughs, really brightened my day, and set the stage well for the next book.
Now Asher is my kind of wild, broody man. Asher and Caleb were so good together. Lots of good suspense and outside relationship angst, some minor in relationship angst between the two in the beginning. But man, Asher was kind, patient and so loving. What Asher had been through and what he had done, just amazing and understandable why he left society behind. These two were well matched and quickly found their place together
