The town of Button Harbour on Newfoundland’s rugged southern coast is expecting chaos and carnage in the form of a Category-Two Hurricane.
But unknown to the tiny fishing hamlet, another storm has already graced their shores; a tempest named Corbin Dwyer. This is actually good news for the honest residents of Button Harbour, but the criminal cartel which has operated in complete anonymity had better batten down the hatches.
After inserting himself into a deadly bar brawl to save a life, Corbin Dwyer inadvertently steps on the toes of criminal kingpin Nigel Cromwell, even though the mobster calls all the shots from his warehouse in the island’s capital city of St. John’s.
Unknown to the folks of the secluded harbour town, Cromwell has set up a smuggling ring controlled by his ruthless and perverse son.
When a local father is callously murdered by Nigel, Dwyer decides it’s time to rid the town of its corrupt infestation, but with a hurricane on the way, he’ll not only have to fight a well armed mob, but also the worst storm to hit the area in over 100 years.
Thaine Chase is a Newfoundland author writing from the comfort of his humble home in Avondale, NL.
In just over half a decade, Thaine has published a number of diverse titles across numerous genres, receiving critical acclaim, awards, and five-star reviews.
Thaine Chase doesn't disappoint again with the second installment of Corbin Dwyer. If you like action thrillers that aren't overly wordy and a book that keeps you glued to the pages, you will love this novel. Corbin returns to Newfoundland to continue tracking down his familial history, only to find a corrupt crime ring devastating the community and it's residents. In standard Corbin Dwyer fashion he won't stand by while the innocent people of this old fishing community are being mistreated and crime lords are running roughshod on the island. With unpredictable action and fresh plot lines Thaine Chase delights the reader yet again and leaves us longing for the third installment of the Corbin Dwyer trilogy. I highly recommend this read if you are a fan of this genre!
Literally did not put this book down until I'd finished it.
With its impressive tone and tension I truly thought Rise By Sin (the first Corbin Dwyer novel) was one of a kind and though I looked forward to the next installment of this hero, the level of suspense and story needed to keep the quality would have to be so elevated, I worried I'd be let down. Groundless fears!
Never Found Lying Down surpasses Rise By Sin in so many ways but doesn't dull the brilliance of the first Corbin Dwyer book. In fact, I'd say we learn so much more about Corbin in Never Found Lying Down simply based on the way the author chose to tell the story, but the heroic familiarity of the first book is alive in well in this one too. Great villains and great obstacles bring out the uniqueness and brilliance of Dwyer's anti-hero persona. And like Rise By Sin, this book builds like a rollercoaster and each page is like the clicking of the tracks until you get to the peak of the story and then scream hysterically as you read and ride the intensity, the twists and turns, and the shock and awe of the book's conclusion.
Whatever Thaine Chase has in store for his next Corbin Dwyer book, I'm in!
Corbin Dwyer continues to protect those who are unable to protect themselves while maintaining his own ‘code’. It was fast-paced while the details of the NL communities made me feel like I was visiting home. I can’t wait to get my hands on Book 3
I flew through the first book in a few days and this one I would have done the same if not for a vacation in which I can’t read as there is too much to do but it was just as enjoyable. I love how you never know what’s gonna happen and nice to have it set in this province. The title was clever and there were sections I couldn’t put it down even if I had stuff to do! So proud of Thaine! May your writing reach far and wide!
And I thought RISE BY SIN gave Corbin Dwyer a distinction from the Jack Reachers of the literary world, but NEVER FOUND LYING DOWN gives us a peek into Dwyer's mind as the story unfolds, and WOW!
Basically we pick up where RBS leaves off and once he arrives in Newfoundland, its a thrill ride to the end. I can't imagine what awaits for us in book 3!
An excellent sequel, I enjoyed this book from the moment I opened it. It is the next in the Corbin Dwyer series and starts with action from the get go and doesn't let up until the action packed conclusion. I'm a very slow reader, but I couldn't put this book down. I can't wait to start the next one!
And I thought Rise By Sin had action! This book, the 2nd in the series had action overload. So much going on and involving the weather as a separate character was a proper pleasure. Learned so much more about the main character, I guess I need to get my hands on book 3 soon.
