In this episode of adventure, our heroes, Uncle Richard and Stephen, stay in New York to find out who is behind an attempted murder of one of Richard's friends named Ralph. In so doing, they are joined by Valley Girl, Janice Bruce, a Californian hired on to work as a computer programmer for a dummy corporation - a corporation where their trail ends. Sinister forces are at work here as not only do they find themselves once more pitted against The Mole, our villain from the previous book, "Evil In Paradise", but they find out that he possesses something that Uncle Richard has vowed in years past to recover. The third Kronom K-D2 watch. The excitement escalates all the way to the top of the Empire State Building in an effort to stop an evil plot and take back the lost watch, against the backdrop of the holiday festivities of St. Patrick's Day.
This was a fun entry, not quite as bizarre as the previous book, but still with a few head shaking moments. I have to remind myself at times of what the target audience is for these books. Even so, I enjoyed reading this one, and have been smiling as I travel back into time with the re-read of this series. In this particular story, I have to admit that the valley talk of our brain smart computer programmer, Janice Bruce, became annoying real fast. Like ... gag me with a spoon already ... like, totally ... like, I get it. LOL - but the plot was imaginative and engaging and a complete guilty pleasure.
I would certainly recommend this one. It isn't one of the strongest ones in the series, but it isn't that bad either. Worth the time and the read. A solid 3 stars out of 5. Now, on to the next one! Book 8 - "Trapped in the U.S.S.R.". Like ... totally!
