This is possibly one of the most beautiful books I owned as a child. The edition of this book I own has a dark blue cover and golden pages glimmering opposite of the spine. This was one of my most special books I owned when I was child. I recommend this book to any other child growing up. I remember reading The Three Little Pigs, Humpty Dumpty and The Gingerbread Man.

Treasury of Bedtime Stories

3.5 stars

This is the storybook that stayed within my hands for most of younger childhood. I remember bringing this book along with me on vacation. This book holds a lot of memories for me. I also used this book to teach the multitude of Barbies and Bratz lessons (I've always been destined to teach English). I found this book in my mom's old bookshelf and instantly I was swimming in nostalgia and excited to revisit the stories of my childhood. Surprisingly, most of the stories lived up to my memory, but I also forgot quite a few.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears
4.25 stars
I've always enjoyed the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I suspect it's because this is the opening story and therefore the most memorable for my little young mind. As an adult, I can't get passed how Goldilocks just waltzes into a stranger's home and starts taking and rummaging through their personal belongings. Did her parents not teach her anything? Was she a thief who was bad at her job?

Hansel and Gretel
3.75 stars
I have problems with this adaptation of this famous story.
1) The father willingly leads his children into the woods to face the elements at the convincing of his wife. I've always enjoyed the version of the stepmother waiting for the father to leave for business or a trip and luring the kids into the woods because having a father willingly get rid of his children seems far fetched.
2) Once the kids are free of the witch the father is happy to see them and the kids have money and riches they stole from the witch. It makes it seem like the only way their father wants them is if they are throwing money into his pockets.
I suggest watching the Howie Mandel movie adaptation. That was my favorite movie for a good two years.

Henny Penny
1 star
Not only are these names horrible and also slightly sexual, but there's a reason why no one talks about this story. It's because it sucks. Henny Penny abandons her friends to be eaten by the fox after leading them on a wild goose chase to tell the king that the sky is falling. P.S. the sky isn't falling, an acorn fell on your head.

Puss in Boots
2.5 stars
This cat is incredibly wily and resourceful at manipulate humans into believing his tales. He is so effective that he is able to trick a shapeshifting ogre into turning into a mouse, which he proceeds to eat. This cat also did everything for the kid and he didn't even get a thanks. That bothers me a little.

Jack and the Beanstalk
1 star
Jack is a jerk. He takes advantage of the giant lady and continues to steal from them. I always wanted the Giant to eat his head; even when I was a little girl.

The Little Red Hen
4 stars
This little hen works her butt off and her lazy friends do nothing all day. She gets victory in the end.

Snow White
5 stars
I love this adaptation because it is not ridiculous. I never understood how Snow White was woken from a poisoned sleep by a kiss. Like bye. This made more sense and it was slightly creepy, but hey it worked.

The Three Little Pigs
5 stars
That pig is not to be trifled with!

The Tortoise and the Hare
4 stars
Classic childhood fable and you can't go wrong with it.

The Steadfast Tin Soldier
3 stars
I don't remember this story and I'm not familiar with it. It's very sweet and I'm pretty sure it inspired Toy Story with the talking toys. It's also a cute love story!

Cinderella
2 stars
I have never been satisfied with the story of Cinderella. In fact, I was incredibly bored by it; until I came across the movie Ever After. That was my first interaction with the tale of Cinderella and the only one I will ever care about (I do love A Cinderella Story). This adaptation is no different. I think the idea of a prince not asking the girl he is dancing with name is stupid and also the shoes don't disappear. You're telling me that everything else disappears except the shoes? Hogwash. They barely even talked. I'm not buying it.

The Ugly Duckling
4 stars
Does this mean that mama duck is a ho? If so, at least she has exquisite taste in mating partners. I'm quite the fan of swans. (Even more so after reading Daughter of the Forrest). They are incredibly beautiful creatures and they are fiercely loyal- they mate for life. I just love seeing them in stories because they are forgotten creatures. Everyone raves about other animals, but no one mentions swans unless it's in a ballet anymore.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin
1 star
WHAT?! This guy kidnaps all the kids in the town in retaliation for not being paid his promised sum after luring the rats out of the infested town.

Sleeping Beauty
4 stars
I love the concept of the whole kingdom sleeping for a hundred years alongside the princess. I think this would make a fun fantasy story.

Rumpelstiltskin
4 stars
I've always suspected Rumpelstiltskin to be a demon. He loves to make deals and he disappears after his name is revealed. That are he is a pedophile. Either one or both.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff
4 stars
I remember constantly reading this one. It's not a particularly interesting tale, but for a young kid this story absolutely suspenseful.

Beauty and the Beast
5 stars
This is the only story that I have always loved dearly. As a young girl, it was my favorite love story and as an adult it's my favorite fairy tale.

Little Red Riding Hood
5 stars
It's just a good story!

The Gingerbread Man
3 stars
Poor Gingerbread Man, but he was quite mischievous- so he probably deserved it.

Overall, I highly recommend giving this collection to all the little kids in your life because I loved it.
The illustrations are beautiful and quirky enough that kids will enjoy them.

“I loved it!” -(Palmer, 4)
“It was good and the pages were good and I loved it!” -(Cali, 4)

“Puss and Boots, Pied Piper, and Rumpelstiltskin were kind of morbid in a way. But all the other ones were good!”-(Harrison, 8)

This took us a month and a half to get through, with different books in between. We really enjoyed reading the fairytales to our kiddos. -(mom, 29)

I purchased this book for my eldest son when he was a baby. It was a gift given to him for his very first Christmas. As he got older, my husband and I would read the stories to him and his younger brother. They grew up hearing their daddy voice the characters and to this day, they still make fun of his Henny Penny voice! Thanks to this wonderful book, they have so many fabulous memories! My youngest son once told me that he wants the book so he can read it to his kids someday. Only problem is that my eldest wants it for the very same reason, and it is HIS book after all. Well, after much searching, I finally found an online store that is selling a "new" (hoping they're not lying!) copy for a helluva lot more than I spent on the original! But, it is for my baby boy and he deserves to have that special book as a Christmas present as well. By the way, those babies of mine are now in college!

I chose to read this book as i read these too my younger brother before he went to bed . This book contains all the classics from Cinderella , to Jack and the beanstalk and even Little Red riding hood . I enjoy these stories as i remember being read them when i was younger . There is nothing i dislike about them . I would reccomend this book too 3+ as althought they are fairy tales , they can be enjoyed by all ages . Although , an adult would not read this as a novel . This ticks off , a book of short stories on my bingo board .

I read the Little Red Riding Hood and it brought back memories of when I was a little girl. I feel like children who read this can connect with it because most of them have grandmothers that share stories with them. This book is a great book for kids in grades k-3 because it is very suspenseful and has great pictures. Although the wolf does not eat the grandmother in this story, it does teach kids to not talk to strangers.
