Lists Wiccan and Pagan organizations, churches, schools, and bookstores, and includes mail order sources for New Age, Wiccan, pagan, and astrological books and supplies
Gerina Dunwich is a professional astrologer, occult historian, and New Age author, best known for her books on Wicca and various occult subjects. She is also involved in paranormal research and is the founder of the Paranormal Animal Research Group, which investigates cases of alleged hauntings by animal spirits.
She wrote in the Introduction to this 1998 book, “Wicca, which is an Old English word meaning ‘wise,’ is a positive, Earth-oriented, nature religion with ancient roots that are pre-Christian. It gloriously celebrates the life force, encourages spiritual growth, and includes seasonal rites to attune oneself to the beauty, magick, and love of Mother Nature and Goddess Earth.
“Like the New Age spirituality movement, which had steadily been gaining momentum throughout the past ten years or so, Wicca is also growing, changing, and expanding. As more people become educated and enlightened to the ways of Wicca, the negative stereotypes and misconceptions associated with modern Witches and Pagans are gradually being shed. Wicca is not a passing fad. It is a strong religion of light and love, both ancient and contemporary, that is here to stay. This resource book was painstakingly put together for the purpose of connecting Wiccans, Pagans, and New Age spiritualists from around the world, and to help promote Wicca (the Craft of the Wise), Earth-Goddess religions, and all positive spiritual paths. All efforts have been made to produce a thorough and up-to-date compilation of listings to serve the entire Wiccan, Pagan, and New Age community as an invaluable resource directory.
“If I have accidentally left anyone out, or if any of the listings change or become discontinued by the time this book is published, I sincerely apologize and will do my best to correct any incomplete or incorrect information in future editions.
“This revised and expanded edition is composed of 16 important sections: organizations and covens, Wiccan and Pagan churches, books and publishers, periodicals, astrology, herbs, metaphysical shops, mail order companies, psychic and paranormal, resources for gay and lesbian Pagans, festivals, gatherings and workshops, the left-hand path, Pagan potpourri, a Who’s Who of the Wiccan community (which features some of the most talented, well-known, accomplished, and respected members of the Wiccan community worldwide), and a recommended reading list. Many organizations and businesses are listed in more than one section.
“Whether you are searching for special occult supplies, Pagan parenting groups, the nearest Wiccan church, a Witchcraft correspondence course, a networking organization for gay and lesbian Witches, dream-catchers, mandrake roots, or astrological computer software, you are guaranteed to find it within the pages of this book.”
Ms. Dunwich’s section introductions, and brief descriptions of all her listings are (were?) very helpful, and undoubtedly reflect a HUGE amount of effort. Unfortunately, the Internet has somewhat superseded the need for such resource books as this one.
My copy was way out of date even over a decade ago. If you can find an updated version, would be a handy resource to locate some brick and mortar shops and things.
A friend gave me this book when I was maybe 16. Her parental units destroyed her other "non-Christian " books and before this met with the same fate, she rehomed it with me. However, as much as I enjoy and own many books on Pagan and Wiccan nonfiction topics, this book is silly. Actually, anything by Gerina Dunwich is pretty silly. Her books tend to be all fluff and no content. Pages with text, just stuck together in an aesthetically pleasing way to caters to a specific-in my opinion, spiritually vulnerable- crowd, so she can make quick money. I mean, geez- this book's content went obsolete so fast.. I dunno what anyone would want with this book now. Do not misunderstand my negative opinion of this author for a negative opinion of Wicca.
