Lessons in Living

Rate this book
At long last, here is the paperback edition of beloved columnist and author Susan L. Taylor's bestselling collection of spiritual writings on overcoming the challenges of everyday life.

Revealing the spiritual lessons Susan has learned first-hand from grappling with the challenges and difficulties in her own life, Lessons in Living is a celebration of the journey of life that has already become a classic. Written in the anecdotal style that has made Susan's "In the Spirit" column the most popular feature of Essence magazine, Lessons in Living addresses the themes that have been her unique territory for over a self empowerment, the exploration of love and self-worth, and issues of faith and commitment.

One of my favorite passages: "Imagine the anguish you'd avoid if you didn't give way to doubt and fear, but simply did your best and trusted God to take care of the details. Imagine how peaceful you would feel if you believed that no matter what the future has in store, life is always leading you toward your highest good. Imagine how your anxieties and self-doubt would evaporate, and how bravely, how boldly, you'd face the world each day if you understood that now and forever you are loved and protected, always in God's care." p.28

Taylor is a fabulous woman from head to to toe, and her writing is highly testimonial of that. She volunteers a lot of her past, and it was interesting to get a glimpse of it as Essence magazine was now emerging and when she inherited it, to her love for her husband and his for her. It was more semi-autobiographical and it kept me wanting more, but I appreciate all that the lessons she stipulated from her stories--especially about divinity.

Susan never disappoints. She has some great examples of people that have moved beyond the trappings of the things that have occurred in their lives.

Susan Taylor is an exceptional person. Her desire for growth is demonstrated in every essay in this book...and her efforts to grow mentally, spiritually and physically. It is a blessing that she was willing to share her life lessons.
