very good

Not your typical haremlit/litrpg story. The MC is a regular guy tossed into a irregular situation. Not OP which is nice. Also his relationships with the opposite sex is more believable as is his reaction to it. The reluctance makes it believable. I definitely enjoyed it.

LitRPG Flipped On It’s Head!

Take all pre-conceptions about LitRPG stories and toss them out the window, cause Everyone’s a Catgirl is here to break the mold, and do so brilliantly! Starting with the introduction and subsequent characterization of its MC, this story makes it abundantly clear that you’re in for a delightfully different ride altogether -- and it more than delivers on that promise. Seeing Matt, our MC, get literally plopped into this world and not only have to scramble to learn to survive in it but also overcome his own emotional insecurities presents a refreshingly unique spin for an MC in this kind of story. And seeing him learn/grow on his journey -- even if it’s a gradual process -- is already proving to be highly rewarding! I can’t wait to see where he goes/what he learns next, and if he makes a few more fumbles and/or encounters more bouts of hilarity and misfortune along the way, all the better! Because heroes who make mistakes, deal with them and come out on top and wiser for their missteps are the more compelling ones.

Then you’ve got the Catgirls themselves, all of whom are charming and incredibly endearing. DoubleBlind wisely takes the time to build these characters and relationships so that you really come to care about them. And those moments of development in-between the impressive action scenes truly do serve their purpose and enhance the overall experience. This also leads me to another pro to highlight: the integration of comedy. Going back to Matt, Everyone’s a Catgirl boasts a wry, sharp and genuinely funny sense of humor that it infuses into so much of the storytelling and helps bring you into the world even more. This very much is an immersive experience, and the fact that the writing is consistently top-notch is like the cherry on top.

If something like Everyone’s a Catgirl is the type of quality that DoubleBlind debuts with, then I’m ecstatic to see what they come up with next!

Amazing first entry

A strong story with easy to love characters.

The LitRPG elements are easy to follow and great for a first time LitRPG reader.

I also really enjoyed the loading screen esk pro tips and the art to top notch in the book.

If you are looking for a fun read with some spicy scenes this book is perfect for you.

A fantastic, funny, and emotional story.
A character-driven story packed to the brim with action, adventure, character growth, and a world that is realistic within the rules that have been established - including dark consequences hidden under the surface.

Everyone's A Catgirl, while not a direct parody, is able to effectively poke fun at many of the elements of the cliche harem isekai genre while still telling its own incredible story.
A refreshing read for fans of the genre and a great read for newcomers as well.

Main Charachter
To begin with, the main character Matt is not your typical OP Isekai protagonist. He's weak, he's clueless, he makes rash decisions, and - dare I say it - he starts out as an idiot. But that's why I love him so much as a protagonist; he's a young man with little world experience who was thrust into a bizarre world he has no context for, and he has to scramble to adapt and survive
And that's where the character growth I mentioned comes into play. Matt certainly starts out as a fool, but he quickly learns from his mistakes and grows as a person.

I can understand the frustration of having to read about a main character who makes so many mistakes, but I urge you to keep reading and give him a chance to improve.

Harem
This is a harem story, which could understandably be a turnoff for some people. However, I've found that it throws most of the typical tropes completely out of the water.

The major side characters in this book are fully fleshed out, with their own motivations, backstories, and character arcs. All the characters seem realistic within the confines of the world that has been established. These characters are lovable and fun and help to paint a realistic picture of the world. With the addition of several special chapters giving us flashbacks into their lives, you can easily grow to love these characters just as much (or more!) than our main character Matt.

It's also made clear that while he is the main character in terms of whose perspective we follow, the world does not revolve around him. This is hinted at through several of the minor characters Matt interacts with who all have their own lives we get to peek at.

And while there is occasional smut, that is not the main focus of the story. Furthermore, the scenes are always well-written and typically part of important overarching character or story arcs.

The World
This is a LitRPG story, which means it contains levels, stat points, experience, and monsters. And
while those elements are prevalent throughout the story, they are not the main point and are not overbearing. Thus, this book can serve as a good introduction to the genre for new readers.

Furthermore, I found that these elements play well into how the society in this story actually functions. From the economy to the culture, everything seems to fit into place.

In terms of monsters, there is plenty of action throughout this story. Between the various monsters encroachers naturally inhabiting the islands to deadly mutated Defiled who are out for blood, the thrilling action scenes are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

This also ties back into the trope-breaking that is prevalent in this story. Our MC Matt is not overpowered in the slightest. On the contrary, it is a struggle to survive and it is often up to his party members to keep him alive (especially earlier in the story when he was still too impulsive for his own good).

In this fantasy world, as the title suggests, everyone is a Catgirl. The only exceptions are the four men who can exist on the islands at any one time. Because of this, when a new man arrives on an island it is up to him to both fight off the monsters/defiled roaming the wilderness as well as to ... help ensure the next generation is born. And while this concept seems like the typical male fantasy, once again the tropes are thrown out the window. Because there are several dark consequences for the type of society that would live in such a world.

For instance, due to the rarity of men, outright romance is considered not just taboo, but illegal! This has the potential to prove to be a serious problem for Matt, who has caught hard feelings for his party members.

Also, it's not like the women are just throwing themselves at his feet. The relationships with his party members (who seem to be the main romantic interests) are slowly fleshed out over time and have their own ups and downs.

Furthermore, that rarity of men on the islands gives those men a lot of power over the catgirls they interact with — which can be a serious problem when they are not as kind-hearted as Matt. I won't give any specifics (to avoid spoilers) but I'm sure you'll see what I mean when you've finished this book.

I've never so desperately wanted an RPG in the universe of a book in my life.

Editing to give my actual thoughts now:

I loved how genuine and normal the MC was. I love a good ol' over powered MC getting their revenge on a world that was cruel to them, but there's much to love about someone you could actually know in your real life getting sent somewhere so different. I've seen many folks complain about him being foolish, but they forget that he's still young and makes choices from the lens of a young man who thinks he's invincible. After spending time with people he's come to care for and being called out by others, he makes the choice to change and makes a concerted effort to follow through on it. I loved that not everyone was in love with Matt from the jump, despite the fact that they'd be primed to jump at the chance of meeting a man at all (due to their scarcity in the universe). There are characters who aren't impressed with him, ones whose respect must be earned and who aren't afraid to be harsh. I especially love that Matt has to go through quite a bit of adjusting from the way he views relationships. He was very clearly monogamous, or looking at the world through a monogamous framing, which he has to reckon with in a universe where he is expected to essentially be responsible for a large portion of the next generation existing.

There are certain trends that usually send me running from stories with multiple female love interests for a male MC, but they were nowhere to be seen in this! The characters have so clearly been crafted with love and passion, even the background ones. The girls feel natural, a sweet, shy girl whose best friend is more self assured and able to protect her? Perfect. The authors weren't afraid to let the girls have some of the same personality aspects. For example, Keke and Ravyn are both stubborn and hard headed at times, and they beautifully showed how these traits can present differently in different people. Each girl had her own unique voice and feel about her; it was so refreshing.

The descriptions of the world are detailed without feeling overbearing, and it's clear that a lot of care went into not only the characters, but the universe they're living in. It seems very cutesy at first, given that we start on an island that is much more friendly and welcoming than others, the cute cat puns in the names of so many things gives a sense of innocence to the world, but the more Matt lives through, the more we see that it can be a very dangerous place with evil and cruelty lurking. It somehow manages to not take itself too seriously while also very clearly leading to something far more serious in future parts.

Over all, I found this book to be refreshing, genuine, passionate, and to be quite the joy to read. I'm thankful to have stumbled upon it and the lovely community that has gathered around it.

I admit to two important facts about this book, one I have been reading and supporting this book for a very long time on patreon and second this series is not for everyone as it is harem litRPG. That aside this book deserves the praise of being so good a satire of a genre that it challenges it to be better and live up to the standard that it has set with its supporting cast having goals, feelings, and finally their own backstories that feel as important as our MC Matt Kelmer.

Speaking of which Matt is truly the one of the most realistic young man in modern times. Hopeful, naive, attempting righteous and yet falling short many times enough that detractors start their hatred here. Yet Matt’s story is the story of real growth not just physical limits or skills learning spree, but also emotional as he has to grapple with his failures and follies and face the consequences of both his actions and the realities of this world he is sent to. Also talking about Matt warning there is sexual content that happens and something not right does happen to Matt. It will make you face an issue that most likely you’re not familiar with but it does make sense with the satire basis of other isekai.

All that uncomfortableness mostly out of the way I want to make clear that this book is filled with character growth and coming to terms with the horrors of this world. Which makes victories all the sweeter as you begin to feel the connection of this world of supposed utopia to only stumble into a decaying world from the death of heroes long past or killed often and early. Oh also Caliu is a prick do not fall for his elvish charms. Lastly curse DB for making a story that made me fall in love with wonder again. Also Thank the artists for the pretty pictures they’re all good beans and artists. And thank the editor she worked day and night on this one. Until the next story comes I’ll be waiting with baited breath.

This book is pretty good, though it falls short of great.

The MC is from Earth and with no preamble, dies unexpectedly and is offered a chance to go to one of three worlds. He picks the hardest because everyone living there is a catgirl. He arrives, and is immediately drowning in the ocean, where a catgirl rescues him. She takes him home, he meets her best friend, and from there, has to pick a class. He picks warrior to protect the two, one of whom is a scout, the other a healer. He's a bonehead and doesn't listen to advice he's given, leaving him to get injured and requiring a few days rest before they can go out again.

Men are extremely rare on this world, he being one of only 4 available at any one time. He has three catgirls in his party by the end, the first two and a sorceress he meets while trying to find the first two. The first two are pretty close in level to him, while the sorceress is quite a bit higher initially. Only men can see his "iPaw" device and read it, and only they get XP from quests unless it is a party quest from the Guild Hall, something he hasn't taken yet in this book.

It is not haremlit at this time, because the MC can't have sex with is "harem", though he can fool around with them. Catgirls are extremely fertile, so if he has sex with a party member, she's be pregnant and out of commission for a few months. What he can do is impregnate other catgirls not with him. And by the end of the book, he's up to three out of the five he needs to complete a special quest.

The story is most Slice of Life, with some combat involved. Actually, it needs more questing/adventure to really solidify in to a 5 star book. Maybe that will happen in book 2.

A very refreshing take on the Isekai genre in general. While also being a gentle introduction to LitRPG without overwhelming the reader. It's a breath of fresh air from the characters to a main character that definitely isn't perfect and that's what makes it all the more believable. But he's trying as well as all the other characters to make it in this crazy world. And it's reflected in every word of a story written in a very enjoyable and beautiful style. Not only does it tackle familiar concepts in a refreshing way, but the characters themselves are all so wonderfully different in those scenarios.

I can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a well-built world, healthy and realistic characters (and growth for them), and a story that will leave you looking at the timer waiting for the next book to drop.

Also. Catgirls-- so many beautiful, sweet, not-so-sweet, and even mysterious catgirls.

I have to admit I ended up quite enjoying this book, but given how close I came to abandoning it I can't give it a better rating. One of the more common criticisms I see in reviews for books of this and similar genres as the MC being an idiot. It feels like the author read such a review and took it as a personal challenge, attempting to create the stupidest MC ever written. He was wildly successful too. The first half or so of the book is incredibly dumb, making nothing but bad decisions. Thankfully he starts to smarten up beyond that point, and the last half of the book is pretty good. With the stupid seemingly out of the way, I intend to read the sequel when it's out. Hopefully it'll be better.

With unexpected turns, EaC shows you a wonderful world and characters with a pretty simple premise that soon enough turns out into something you wouldn't have expected, as well as the satisfaction of seeing the grow of a (rather naive) main character.

Awesome world building, a good variety of characters and a delightful writing thanks to the author.

Rough

In the first 19% the MC makes the same mistake fives times of jumping in without asking questions. Around 40% he’s done it twice more. Since the MC doesn’t ask about the world we never get explanations of how the world works. There is so few details given it makes the whole book feel like fluff. The only explaining that is ever done is to explain an action that is either just about to take place or after the fact. It’s not even in great enough details to explain the reasoning sometimes. This book would be a frustrating read if there was any stakes.

Single handedly one the worst book I’ve ever read. Definitely the worst litrpg. Characters act incomprehensibly throughout the story with absolutely no explanation. Book takes absolutely forever to build and then you’re slapped with a non consent scene, then book over. What’s the point. Do yourself a favour skip this one and read anything else.

If you don’t know what LitRPG means or what an Isekai Adventure is, check Wikipedia. Matt dies a “heroic death” so is given a second chance, reincarnated in Nyarlea on the Island Ni, gets his iPaw, and is adopted by two cute catgirls. Now he has to become a hero and fight Encroachers, AKA monsters, to build up his character’s Stats. As the group of Cannoli, Keke, Ravyn, and Matt travel, there are many mysterious undertones and things unsaid but implied. There are dangers and adventures galore, and many catgirls hoping to have kittens with Matt’s help. Matt finds out that this new life isn’t quite the fantasy he’d dreamed of, but it’s still pretty good and certainly beats being dead. This is an enjoyable fantasy romp in an unlikely world that’s lots of fun. I’m looking forward to Volume Two of the series.

Fine story, kinda wish it came with a trigger warning for the rape and ptsd. Jarring to go from cutesy to full blown rape/impregnation/cultural coercion to not speak out against a rapist…

Of the books I read in the fantasy genre, this by far trumps the rest. The authors did such an amazing job creating a unique world environment which couldn't have been chosen any better, CAT GIRLS! The story has a unique twist on the Isekai/reincarnation fantasy, not everything is rainbows and butterfly's which brings a fresh perspective to the readers. On the lines of characters, cat girls? You cant ask for a better cast to pick from. Each character has their own personality written between the lines that lets your mind be able to envision what the author was trying to convey, and they're cat girls! With a fun and action filled adventure with a little bit of spice sprinkled in, this is a story giving a chance and picking up. Though I cannot write nearly as well as the Authors, Everyone's a Catgirl! gets my Recommendation!

I've never read LitRPG a day, but I love a good Isekai story, so I excitedly dove in and almost immediately fell in love. The characters are all amazing and very different from one another so they all bring something fun to each interaction and conversation. (Cannoli is best girl, though, and I will not hear otherwise.) But my favorite part has to be the world. All the interesting and slightly horrifying creatures, the differing islands, the difficulty in leveling up and learning new skills. It's all amazing and feels very well thought out. 100/10. No critiques. Will recommend to everyone.
