In a Breath, she was condemned. Ever since her mother nearly destroyed their village with outlawed magic, Elena has wanted nothing more than to raise her only child in peace. But that peace is shattered when she calls the Breath to save her daughter's life... To a race against hope. When her daughter is ripped away from her, she is forced to confront her hatred of her mother, the Breath, and her drunken, ex-hero of a husband as she races across the country to steal her daughter back from the two most powerful men alive. But the Duke and the Overlord each have their own plans for her... That only one can win. A pawn in a game of thrones, she must find a way to rescue her daughter and defeat them both. If she can not, the entire world will pay the price. Listen to reviews and learn more at: LonnieEzell.com

The overlord has been ridding the world of people who can use the Breath, but one woman and her daughter have taken upon themselves to rid the world of the overlord.

This book has its share of surprises. In some ways it is written in the tradition of swords and sorcery, but there are no heroes here. Just an man past his prime, once a leader, now a drunk, with too many ugly things in his past. His wife, who just wants things to be normal for her daughter in ways they weren't for her, their daughter and their son. A son given up for dead a long time ago.

Everyone does what they need to do, and it's not always pretty.

Thank goodness that was a free book.

The plot had something going for it in a couple places, but most of the time it was simply an example of why some books don't get published by people other than their authors.

This was alright. I mostly liked it because of the way magic worked, it reminded me of the Dark Sun books I used to read.

Pros: Strong story. Intricate magic function, and very interesting. Sturdy characters that have notable growth, and they are relatable.

Cons: Repetative. The author has favorite words that are overused and often in the same sentences and passages. Makes for clunky reading. Numerous loop holes, but not too large or distracting. The largest downfall to this story was the extreme number of POV jumps. It jarred me from the story numerous times, and I felt that the story could have been stronger following only two characters.

Overall I did enjoy the story. I would recommend it despite my irritation with certain aspects. Also note that the author does an amazing job reading the audio version.
