Hi there! I'm Olivia. I write romance with billionaire heroes (despite never having met one in person). They're strong, ambitious, they don't need love... until they meet the women who change their minds.
I love witty banter, smart heroines, big cities and perfectly tailored suits. You'll find all four in every one of my books! 💜
READING ORDER You can read any of the books as standalones, because each book follows a new couple. But if you ask me? This is my personal preference...
The Connovan Chronicles - Best Enemies Forever - The Perfect Mistake - One Wrong Move
New York Billionaires - Think Outside the Boss - Saved by the Boss - Say Yes to the Boss - A Ticking Time Boss - Suite on the Boss - 12 Days of Bossmas
Seattle Billionaires - Billion Dollar Enemy - Billion Dollar Beast - Billion Dollar Catch - Billion Dollar Fiancé
Brothers of Paradise - Dark Eyed Devil - Ice Cold Boss - Red Hot Rebel - Small Town Hero
Standalones - Arrogant Boss - Look But Don't Touch - The Billionaire Scrooge Next Door - How to Honeymoon Alone
Saved by the Boss is sweet romance story. There is a theme about sickness in the book. It especially touched my heart because I also have problem with my eye sight.
Miss Hayle slowly and tenderly building the climax between Summer and Anthony. The argument presented by Anthony about his future, hits hard on me. It took me several minutes to finally compase the review.
Overall, the story is sweet, tender and real. I like Miss Hayle writing style.
Skip this one and save yourself from this hot mess.
At about the 30% mark I remembered why I have previously stopped reading other books by this author. I only carried on and did finish this one due to the fact that I was intrigued by the Hero’s character arc. Our Hero here is suffering from a medical condition in which his eyesight is deteriorating, and will eventually end up with blindness.
Normally when I don’t like a story, but do manage to read the whole thing somehow, I usually end up rating it two stars, and I almost did that here, but ended up at the conclusion that it’s just way too problematic for me to give it two stars.
I have way too many reasons why I couldn’t stand this, so instead of writing all of the reasons out, I’m going to give you bullet points for my main reasons as to why I absolutely loathed this. Bullet points are generally easier to read, and I get to write less. Win-win 😂
• for the love of all that’s holy, can English authors please stop using NYC as their setting?!? For the love of God! Please!!! Just STOP!!!
• “healthy and hale”, “dancehall”, “townhouse” (and not the American definition of townhouse), “Michaelmas”. I could go on here, but you get the gist.
• if you’re an author, and you’re writing a novel, please learn how to write dialogue. You’re not writing a screenplay. It’s English 101 💁♀️
• there’s a grumpy Hero, then there’s just a plain ole a’h*le. This H was a plain ole ass. Someone that’s constantly a Negative Nelly should not be a mc. Just my 2¢.
• just in case it wasn’t clear in any of my other reviews - Americans are not stupid. We are quite capable of accepting stories that take place in other countries. No one needs every romance out there to take place in NYC. Stick with what you know. Maybe you’re shocked that your cadence comes out in the dialogue. Or maybe you don’t realize that liquor laws in NYC require you to have food. Or maybe you don’t realize that New Yorkers do not call their own city, “New York”.
Rant over.
I will not be picking up this author again, unless by some miracle she decides to go against the pressure she’s obviously receiving from her publisher to set these stories in the US.
Before anyone decides to read this book please know that it contains heavy content. The MMC suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye disease that leads to partial and/or total blindness.
Olivia Hayle write beautifully, however, her books are usually fast paced and lack descriptive content. She explains emotions yes but uses short sentences to do that versus the pages we are used to in other romance books.
For example, their first meet was neither cute nor exciting. She met him as her new boss. She was intrigued about him but definitely not attracted. He was closed off and didn't give her much thought. That set quite a hesitant step towards expecting a fully romantic story.
After a few outings together, both MCs find they enjoy each other's company. They complement each other. His grumpiness to her sunshine-y personality. Her extrovert to his introvert. Her optimisim to his pessimism.
After they hit it off, the book turns into a constant gloomy cloud hanging over our heads. His thoughts tell us how he feels about his impending blindness. How he is losing the joy in life. Unwilling to become a competent blind man. In short he is giving up on his life, his family and his friends. Then it turns into him struggling to adjust with his future reality. But empowered by the MFC's support and faith in him he tries to overcome his depression, his anxiety and his fears. It is a long journey to be had but he is finally willing to humbly accept his reality. It left me with a few panicky feelings in my chest and, honestly, it didn't sit well with me.
The epilogue shows us their HEA with his disease in remission and him adjusting to his deteriorated vision but where he can still partially see.
It's a very emotional story but I wouldn't consider it for a reread.
This was a BR with my lovely Lori. I had to take a few breaks and pour my feelings out to Lori in order to finish the book.
"You mean..." "Yes," he says. "'One night, the stars went out for me, and they'll never return. The night sky has gone dark." I'm glad for the darkness now, hiding the emotion on my face. My heart feels like it's breaking for him. "I'm thankful I saw you, at any rate," he murmurs. "Before it all goes black." My eyes overfill. I don't know how he knows, but he does, his free hand smoothing the tears away from my cheeks. "Don't cry, Summer," he whispers. "Not for me."
This one actually made me a bit emotional. I nearly welled up at one point.
Hero is a self-confessed hater of love, romance and the like. He’s a pessimist. He’s grown apart from his family. He’s investing in the heroine’s aunt’s company which was headed towards bankruptcy (a match making company). Ironically, the investment was the result of losing a bet.
Heroine challenges the hero, and says she can find him a girl because she believes in the ethos of the company; she sets him up on three dates all of which are total flops. They begin to really like each other, but then the shocker drops that our hero, who prides himself on his strength and adventure has been losing his eyesight slowly for the last two years. He simply can’t face it and has been pushing everyone away leading to this depressive state he has entered.
There’s a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. He needed to accept his new impending reality.
Safe read but slow. On a generous day I’d give it a four - I just didn’t anticipate feeling sad.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This one is so much better crafted than the last one in the series. The storyline is also very original. I really didn't expect the deep, empathetic aspect of the book.
The heroine is absolutely amazing in this story. She is career oriented and works hard in her own right. Her actions spoke louder than her words. Instead of announcing what she believes in, she shows it by doing the right thing, even if it might seem hopeless at times. The best part? She is just so empathetic and gentle and lovely. She's the kind of character that woman should aspire to be. There's so much strength in her femininity. Hooray for well-adjusted female leads in romance!
The hero in our story is also pretty nice. It's good to see someone with an actual vulnerability than a fake one that make the guy even more attractive. I like the interaction between the two characters complicated by seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The connection is so deep.
"I haven't let myself think of the future in a long time. But I want it now, with her."
I'm going to cry every time I think about this book. It was so wholesome, like a balm to the soul.
A great Romance story and at the same time it's so much more than just romance. It's a about overcoming the hardest parts of life, being inspired by people, surprised by love and friendship, accepting and seeking companionship and being grateful for the people who comes into our lives to remind us who we are or who we want to be. And embracing the future.
Anthony and Summer were like Yin and yang: He's complex, layered and sarcastic, doesn't believe in relationships or love and felt like his life has ended while she manages to stay happy, and optimistic, and willing to see the best in everyone, firm believer of love and relationships.
Left the book at 80%, the book is too slow for my taste, H took almost half the book to tell h he was going blind and then again they get separated, don't know why cause I've been reading this book for a whole week!!
I just couldn't complete the book in one read cause it wasn't interesting, the h bored me to death, H, I have sympathy for him that he is going blind but he bored me too. There was no freaking chemistry between the two!
Whenever I would decide I would complete the book today, I would read the chapter and realize the book keeps going on and on and on, it doesn't end!!! Cause I was THAT bored!
Anyway, I loved the first series in this book, it was awesome but the second one bored me to death.
This was overall really good! I definitely preferred this to book 1 - the story was more fun and the chemistry between the main couple was so much better🥹
I’ve really been having the best time making my way through Olivia Hayle’s books! Though, same comment as with book 1, the narrators for the audiobooks are not as good - specifically the guy when he makes a woman’s voice gives me major ick.
This was a good read. Summer works for a matchmaking business. She ends up making a bet with Anthony. However, his dates don't go well but he does end up enjoying spending time with Summer. The only problem is that he has a health issue he is dealing with. Thankfully it all works out and they get their happy ending.
Surprisingly good. I’ve read two other books from this series and they were a bit cliche, but here we got a meaningful and engaging story! So definitely recommend this one!
Okay, I can’t believe how serious I am sitting here. I dropped everything I had planned today to read this book immediately and I could not put it down. I finished it in one sitting and never in all my years have I read a more serious, tragic, beautifully written story. Olivia, I didn’t expect this…. I just…didn’t expect this. The synopsis for some reason pulled me like no other. It had such magnetism I swear it was like the book was made from the strongest earth magnet and I’m just a reactive material flying towards it at light speed. The secret was so great, profound and deep. I just won’t talk about it in this review. I just won’t spoil that for the reader. But I will try to finish this review with the best of my abilities without giving anything away. This book had such self loathing, self destruction and self breakdown in it that it simply put me to tears. Again, something I didn’t expect. This is something I’m personally used to because I live in my own personal hell since losing everything with the death of my son and the destruction and loss of the rest of my family and the implosion of my 20 year marriage. The PTSD, nightmares, memory loss, the anger and the self hate is something I know well… I live this everyday… I did not expect to have a mirror shoved into my face when I was reading this book. Yet, I couldn’t stop myself and couldn’t put the book down. Because even though the elements existed you still cheered for Anthony and you still rallied behind Summer and you bet all your chips on her to reach his heart and to save this man. Sighs, it was such a good book everyone. I can’t sit here and tell you anything less. But be ready for a ride in realism. Be ready for a realistic ride and know that these things happen all the time. I’ve spent 14 years working on a pediatric advanced life support ambulance. I’ve seen so much tragedy and yet I’ve seen miracles. I’ve seen things I can’t explain yet, I’ve seen so much death that shouldn’t have happened. It exists. This book was a wild ride for me and it was like I was in a bubble with the book and we were in a gravitational pull rapidly floating around each other dealing for space and position while the world seemingly passed by obliviously. There was so much to take away from this book. Mostly about once you find love you don’t care about anything else. No circumstances, no other preconceptions. You want to exist for that person and help them in anyway that you can and you definitely don’t want them to suffer. To some it’s such a foreign idea. To some it’s scary and they run, they flee like cowards in the night. But to those mature enough and that are mentally and emotionally ready, they open their arms and embrace their partner and it’s the sweetest gift bestowed by God and the universe. The level of love and chemistry in this book was beautiful… on a mythic level. Which you will see. I loved ACE so much. I loved Summer’s background and her examples of love and her ideals. That’s something people forget really fast. Their ideals and beliefs. Never forget those, never fold, never change for someone and never forget to also be true to yourself and those ideals. If the person you “love” doesn’t fit your ideals you need to move on. Don’t let anyone put you down, don’t let anyone change you, don’t let anyone TAKE AWAY from you. Don’t let anyone steal your LIGHT and most importantly your VOICE. Summer learned this the hard way, but in the end found herself with Anthony….but the sweet thing is Anthony also found himself along the way with Summer as well. This was by far one of the best books Olivia has ever written. It gets 20 cosmic stars 💥💥💥💥💥, radiant stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 twinkling ✨✨✨✨✨ and comets ☄️☄️☄️☄️☄️ from this grumpy bear 🐻. This book simply rocked. Read it! Enjoy it!
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher for my unbiased review
This is a great read with my favorite “Grumpy Gus and Sunshine Sally” trope. Olivia and Anthony are complete opposites on the romance spectrum -Anthony doesn’t want or believe in love and Olivia believes there is someone for everyone, as evidenced by her job as a matchmaker.
Anthony is pretty cynical about life and has distanced himself from his family and most others in his circle. And their bet to find him a match is a fun diversion for them both and provide some comic relief.
I really liked how Anthony appreciated Olivia’s input as he sought to make changes to her business and didn’t just overrule her for the sake of progress and profit.
It does touch on a progressive medical condition, but there is very little angst in the story otherwise. And I really did like the overall theme of love conquers all.
I received an advance review copy from Books Sirens and these are my honest opinions
Decent writing and a lucid plot made this billionaire romance a standout among KU offerings. I appreciated the adult behavior Anthony and Summer displayed when dealing with his life changing issue, but there was too much telling instead of showing whenever a scene involved secondary characters or unpleasant interactions.
Kudos for making the story about Anthony and not introducing any scene stealing personal issues for Summer.
I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Pros: This book is, to me, a clear example of the grumpy/sunshine trope well done. And for once, the MMC has a legitimate reason to be grumpy, which is that he is losing his eyesight, slowly but irreversibly.
The FMC Summer is absolutely adorable (great name, btw), and just what the MMC needed in his life.
I appreciate that the MC's meet organically and slowly explore their attraction to each other without anything being forced.
There's an adorable dog 🐕 ❤️
Cons: I found that certain topics were open-ended and didn't get a resolution. For example, the FMC had a wishlist where she stated wanting to be a mother one day, but the MMC seemed convinced about not wanting to have kids. Perhaps we readers are meant to believe that they'll find a compromise in the end, but I wish that it had been cleared up for us.
There wasn't a lot of spice, and it wasn't very explicit at all. Still, the chemistry between the MC's was palpable. Even if on the surface, they didn't have a lot in common.
Final thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed this book, more than the first one on the series. I found the plotline and the characters to be charming, engaging, and entertaining.
4.75 stars 🌟 cheers to my one of my favorite new york couples 🥂🤞i absolutely LOVED anthonysummer 🗽🦮👙 they were such a sweet and promising couple and i loved the friends to lovers path that their relationship started off as! anthony grew so much while being around summer and i am so proud of him for growing and accepting what will happen in the future ❤️🩹 and summer was just a ball of sunshine and warm hugs 🫂 i loved her optimism and how she always saw the good in people. and ace was also so freaking cute!! this was really really good and i can’t wait for victors book
3.4 stars. This book was fine. Nothing objectionable but kind of bland. Drama free though there is a weird hiding of their relationship from her aunt for no real reason. It could’ve been a really good book but it just felt very safe.
It took me a little time to finish this book, but I am in lovee. I was laughing, crying, blushing while reading this book.
Sometimes there are books that talk reality, and after reading them you feel as though you surely need reality checks in fiction as well. I loved how the two of them coped up with the situation. And their reactions were also just.
I really enjoyed this book, and it was definitely a little darker or more so sad than the “Say Yes to the Boss”. So basically this book is about Anthony, who is a business fixer-up? or something like that is working on helping Summer’s aunt’s company recover. Summer basically works at a in-person Tinder type company where they are working to match people up to have successful relationships. Now as Anthony begins to work more and more with Summer they get closer and start to go out on dates. He eventually tells her that he has an eye condition that gonna result in him ultimately losing his vision completely. He hasn’t told anyone this yet and is incredibly bitter with life about this.
The reason I really liked this novel was how mature and hot Anthony’s response was to his condition.
1. I feel like in most novels when the male character has a traumatizing past or something dark they are dealing with in their life they will automatically defend their asshole behavior with that and although Anthony does this initially to everyone around him, he never does this with Summer. There was never a moment in the novel where he lashed out or projected his bitterness about his life onto Summer. And this is also another point: the whole trope of “I hate everyone in the world but you” is so romanticized in other novels but in this book Anthony explicitly tells Summer that he wants to behave how he does with her with everyone else. He hates that he is a grumpy and resentful person with everyone and wants to be more open with everyone like he is with Summer. I thought that was such a beautiful and wholesome change.
2. As briefly mentioned before, other books are all about how the female character is the one that changes the dude without him even realizing it and this book is different in that sense because sure Summer is the person who inspires him to change, but he is the one that actively tried to take time and change himself. The climax of the book is him making a rational decision for himself and realizing that he cannot be dependent on Summer to bring light into his day everyday. He must be the one to go and address all his issues on his own. I thought that was so mature of him. I absolutely loved how the author did not romanticize the process of change and growth. I mean Anthony did not automatically change over night and all because of Summer, he had to take time on his own and face his demons on his own.
3. A pro and con of the novel was that there was no heightened climax where Anthony lashes out on Summer and says something that he regrets and vice versa. It was a very calm moment where Anthony tells Summer that he is going to take some time away from her and take some time to reflect and get his priorities straight in the sense that he is going to go and change his view on life. As a result, there was no grand romantic moment where they get back together…it was all super realistic and gradual.
4. In the ending they obviously are together, but it doesn’t end with Anthony’s condition automatically and magically going away. He still has the eye condition that will ultimately result in him going completely blind, but the ending is him coming to terms with that and learning how to deal with it.
Overall I really liked Anthony’s growth and development as a character. Now I will say I didn’t really love Summer’s character as much. Her character was so stagnant and it felt very much like a therapists. Like all her responses and dialogues were so bluh. I mean she was super supportive and an amazing support system for Anthony but she didn’t give off super steamy vibes. She was so – as said before – bluh. I wish there was more spice or something spunky about her. She was too boring for me. The romance aspect of the novel was subpar like it was mid.
I think the main reason I liked this book was how healthy and non-toxic the male character was in this novel. But overall I would recommend this book!
