It's hard not to love everything about Glacier National Park after you've been there. I've been once, nearly two decades hence, and the feeling still hasn't faded.
Books like this one, though small, can be powerful. While there we - two vanloads of nature photographers and me, a birder - took the Going-to-the-Sun Road to many destinations, transiting Logan Pass as the snow melted and the deer arrived to eat the Glacier Lilies. We take it for granted now, the ability to drive up to and through the pass, even as we marvel at how tight the road can be; you're either up against a wall or peering over a steep drop-off. This book shows the decade-plus journey to design, fund and eventually build the road.
It's mostly photography, with color interspersed with historic grayscale imagery. When we think of the logistics of the build, the equipment available, the weather implications and more, we're left astounded that it traversable today.
Quick read about the magnificent road thru Glacier National Park. Gorgeous park, amazing road. It was interesting to read how they built this road thru the park.
