Go, Go, Planes! by Simon Hart is a boardbook look at different types of airplanes.
Hart's illustrations are colorful depictions of nine differnt planes: jumbo jet, prop plane, helicopter, seaplane, skywriter, private plane, blimp, jetfighter, and blimp. My favorite images are helicopter, seaplane, and jetfighter.
While many young children will probably be attracted to the bright pictures of these planes, they all look too similar. I read a 2006 bilingual edition in Spanish which I found a bit more useful. The one or two word captions are cute, but calling a plane a skywriter seems more whimsical than accurate. Having been in the Navy, I know there are attack planes, bombers and more in addition to fighter planes, but that's probably knitpicking for this age level. I did like the inclusion of seaplanes and blimps, but cargo planes should probably be included these days.
For ages 1 to 4, board book, airplanes, bilingual, transportation, Spanish, and fans of Simon Hart.
While I like it when children's books introduce me to new topics (my knowledge of different kinds of planes is pretty limited), the illustrations make many of the planes look very similar. While the illustrations are cute, I rather see something that make the differences between planes more clear, particularly since this book simply has a picture of the plane and then labels it.
