Are there really second chances in life? How about in death? Shirayuka was picked on and miserable in high school, but when she dies in a car accident, she is given 49 days to return to life and resolve any unfinished business. This opportunity comes through the courtesy of the new Prince of Hell, whose first day on the job just happened to be the day she died. He's obviously smitten by her, and there's an even bigger catch to his deal: he's going to be personally observing her every step of the way, both as the new principal of her school, and from inside a little dollhouse in her home. What's his motivation?
After dying in a hit-and-run accident, Shirayuki is sent to Hell to be judged. While there, she meets Prince, the King of Hell’s grandson. He is immediately smitten with her. While Shirayuki is a good girl, she hasn’t done anything special with her life, good or bad. This makes her difficult to pass judgment on. Prince decides to grant Shirayuki a 49-day extension to her life, and sends her back to the living world so that she can make something of herself.
His rash actions anger his grandfather, and Prince (along with his three servants, Blue, Green, and Page) are sent to earth to look after Shirayuki. As Prince is a brat, and not at all accustomed to life on Earth, "looking after" Shirayuki usually involves Prince upsetting her.
This manga-ka refers to this series as a comedy; I found very little humour in the book. I didn't care for any of the characters, and found some elements outright skeevy. For example, Shirayuki's classmates (bullies who hate her because Shirayuki is receiving male attention, of *course*) are dressed up in Playboy bunny outfits and made to serve and entertain Prince and his followers. Father Phillipe Pureheart tears off the young-looking Prince's clothes upon first meeting him--as gay men do, naturally (please note the heavy sarcasm).
Beyond the offensive content, the art was muddled and didn't help make the story any more enjoyable.
i remember picking this up before i got more educated and rejecting it because of the art style. more fool me. the panels are definitely packed and crazy but it suits the style of the story, which is likewise packed and crazy. and given that the 49-day premise is used up by the end of vol 1, i'm intrigued as to where the story is going.
This is one strange but yet fun series. This has a girl that was suppose to die but the Prince of Hell steps in. Once he steps into her life it has changed forever him and his 3 guardians are always with her and doing crazy things.
